Budapest experience

Here are some pictures from my time in Budapest (I lived there for 14 months
in 2002/2003). Unfortunately, the quality suffers since they are all scanned
photographs and not negatives. But, you'll get the idea.

Parliament

Danube

A Flood

Street Scenes

Serbian Church (on Szerb Utca)

A New Theatre (no comment)

A New University Building

I lived in this block of flats on Ujpesti Rakpart

I had to bring friday's trip to today, because I wont be home on friday. But today,I didnt have class,
so I hopped on my bike, and did a huge voyage around the city. Here are the results, enjoy!
This time,my trip started at home. This is a "new" residential area nearby, built like 5 years ago.

This is a small part of the huge sporting facilities here.

Road leading to a more important one. The reason why ther is no connection(~100m),because the
residents didnt wanted traffic near their homes. I suppose they walk to their workplaces, since
they dont want to drive either in front of others houses...

A new overpass inaugurated last year. It helped a lot reducing congestion in the area.

Now this is a good purpose of graffiti.

Overpass of Árpád road, going to Újpalota.

The old water tower of Újpest.

A new shopping area where there were abandoned houses a few years ago.

My grandparents lived in this house,on the 4th floor,if I remeber right. I always had great time
here. They moved to the flat beside us. This place brings back a lot of memories of my grandfather,
who died a few years ago.

Károlyi Hospital nearby.

Last time I was here, this school was very run down, and was being renovated(I was here with my
grandfather). Now it is renovated.

Playground nearby.

The power plant of Újpest. I had to adjust the exposure at home, because the sun was shining
into the camera...

Building of Chinoin(producing pharmaceuticals),which is a member of Sanofi Aventis.

The only new office building in Újpest, and a new residential building. They started building the
offices when I went to secondary school, which was 6 years ago,and still, only 1 building stands
out of 3.

This is the driving school in Újpest. There is a practice field behind it,where students learn
the basics.

The practice field.

Office buildings on Váci road.

Building of BB(Budapest Bank?),and Duna Plaza in the distance.

It was said:"the work will go on 24/7",so the reconstruction will last no longer than necessary.
Yes,they are working very hard.

Duna Plaza, one of the oldest plazas in Budapest and Hungary.

A nice mobile crane in front of it.

Building of radio Danubius(on the corner),and other newly built office buildings.

The Marina shore I was talking about in the photopost before.

And something still being built there.

View from the riverbank.

The new towers at Pest end of Árpád bridge, and s Shell gas station.

Duna Tower and Gateway offices u/c.

Árpád bridge, with Buda hills in the back.

The Danube is used for freight transport too,but it should be used more, instead of the roads of
Budapest.

Árpád bridge was repaved in 2 weekends(there was no work on the weekdays).

View from the end of Margit island from the bridge. But look, what is that in the distance?

I wont tell you,guess it:)

Margit island,finally.

The view of Pest from the island.(this is a huge(8468x1840)panoramic shot,so open at own risk!)
(sorry for the error at the left,my image merger keeps merging the clouds, which,as we know, are
moving, and in this case, they moved so fast that...so this is the result)

Ruins of i dont know what.

Now this is new to me. It is a small zoo of household animals on the island.

There are still tourists in Budapest. It must be the hot weather.

A pony from the "zoo".

We have nice sightseeing ships:).

The other end of Margit island,Margit bridge is just ahead,at the end of that road.

Fountain, which splatters water in rhythm wth the music.

The european swimming championship was held here,in this brand new "stadium".

Nice colourful flowers.

View of Buda, from Árpád bridge ramp.

Nice smooth black asphalt.

I hate when I cant see from the sun where my camera focuses!!!Anyway, this is Margit island, from the bridge.

Duna Towers and Gateway offices II

Gateway from the ground.

I live in a 10 floor commie, but this is high for me.

Nice renovated commies nearby.

I have no idea what that will be,but its a sign of development,so I photographed it:)

The 360 project will take place here(no,the project hasnt started yet, these dunes are here for a
long time).

We are a very prude nation. This is the advertisement for the 12th Erotica exhibition, held in
Budapest.

No signs yet,but it looks good!

My bike, with a nice renovated school in the back.

This is the only place, where this tramline's track is separated with stone "breasts".This short
segment of the track was repaired when the road was renovated, thats the reason for it.

Könyves Kálmán Secondary School.

This is the feeling of an average commieblock-area in Újpest.

The future place of the next metro station on the M3 line. Now it is a parking lot.

Árpád Hospital.

New shopping area(again).

Water tower of Újpest(again).

The trip I made. Red is where I walked(my tire was flat until I got to the gas station nearby),
green is where I biked. Black dot where pics were made(approximately).

Thank you for watching my pictures! I hope they dont bore yo guys much!

This is my district.
This is the first "sight" along my route, the industrial park of Újpest.

But what is that in the distance?

As you can see, there are still new buildings erected in this industrial park.

The first new house on my route.

Ok,I wont comment every house now.

This is a new,5 star hotel and aqua park u/c.

Do I bore you with my obsession?:)

The junction of 2/b road and M0 is ready and in use.

What the...?It is "prohibited" to go along the road by bike or by foot, but cars can traverse the route...is there a rule among the traffic rules, that prohibits entering by bike of by foot, but allows cars?

New houses again.

The factory of Messer, just beside the houses.

Sprawl-like area, just after the new houses.

The stadium of UTE(the local sports club),which was renovated/rebuilt some years ago.

There are some car dealerships in the area.

Old factory/residential building are torn down...

..to make place for the new. This is the future Károlyi István City Centre.

The same here...old,abandoned factories are demolished,to make place for the new city centre.

New building,in the hearth of the district.

A commie-block-ish building nearby...

...But the area is full with new houses too.

There are still constructions going on!

New house in the narrow street, where flats are still vacant.

The tramline in the hearth of the district is reconstructed. Tracks are in their places. The state of the work at the beginning of the week is here

This is a new part, made some years ago.

Highrise residential building, with a car dealership in front, nearby.

I cant believe! This is the other end of the district, but I still can find new buildings!

And there are still u/c ones!

A fair is coming to town!

This was the oldest commie in the area. But it was fully renovated quite some years ago,and 2 extra floors were added(the roof),and now it looks like a new house!

A renovated school.

And a panorama from yet an other sprawl-like area. To the left, behind the bushes,is a very good restaurant! Its called "Vécsey restaurant(vendéglő,actually). Try it,if you are here.

The Danube makes Budapest so pretty :))) So amazing, I love all the roads that go past the Danube, and the Bridges etc... AND I loved the furnicular you showed, that is interesting..
