More join water lily venture

by Ali G. Macabalang
October 27, 2013

Quote:
Cotabato City — More towns in Maguindanao have joined the livelihood venture of converting to “green gold” their abundant supplies of water lilies, which proved to be a cause of menace when left unmanaged during rainy days along the 220,000-hectare Liguasan Marsh.

The venture, enhanced with Maguindanao’s fresh collaboration with national institutions, now involves eight more towns — Buluan, Sultan-sa-Barongis, North Kabuntalan, Mother Kabuntalan, Datu Piang, Paglat, Datu Salibu and Mangudadatu, said project facilitator Lea Sagan.

“The entire force of seven doctors and 30 nurses manning our regular medical missions will travel Friday to Tacloban City to serve our brethren affected by typhoon Yolanda,” Maguindanao budget division chief Lynette Estandarte told the Bulletin.

Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu will personally lead the mission and bring along “substantial medical supplies” alongside “tons of fresh fish and rice” for distribution to needy villagers in Samar and Leyte, particularly Tacloban City, said Estandarte, focal official for provincial special projects

Mindanao missions off to Visayas

by Ali G. Macabalang
November 14, 2013

Quote:
Cotabato City – Taking cues from media reports about alleged government inept attention to the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda,” humanitarian volunteers from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and nearby provinces opted to personally deliver relief assistance to storm-flattened villages in the Visayas.

The ARMM officials, and the component provincial governments of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, are expected to bring today to Tacloban City their pooled relief goods through a convoy of vehicles, including four mobile hospitals in custom-built buses.

Small, medium Muslim weavers boom during ARMM anniversary

Quote:
MANILA, Philippines—ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman says various cultural shows and trade fairs will be conducted during the monthlong celebration of the ARMM’s 24th founding anniversary to depict the unique cultural identities of the region’s Moro and non-Muslim indigenous groups.

Hand-woven producers are happy during this long-month celebration because the demands go high from the distributors. “Very salable sya during ARMM day. Manila and local tourists buy our stuff like Hijabs, Malongs and other consumer Muslim products,” says Hadja Maumina Tamana, a Maranao businesswoman.

ARMM’s ‘Malacañang’ under full repair

by Ali G. Macabalang
February 23, 2014

Quote:
Cotabato City – The 36-year-old executive building of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) here, dubbed “Malacañang” in the ARMM, is now undergoing full repair in what incumbent officials deemed as part of their “package of legacy” to the proposed Bangsamoro juridical entity.

What delights observers more is the fact that the rehabilitation, which covers the internal and external portions of the edifice, is costing only P25-million, ARMM Information Officer II Jo Henry said.

Kedtag said the MOA prescribes a package of rehabilitation and development efforts worth P100-million per year for a total of P800-million from the P7-billion nationwide allocation of the Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management Project (INREMP).
