This is going to be like that road built in Moi's home district back in late 80's. It was modern with signs & painted. Problem was, you could stand on the side of the road for 25 minutes and not see a single car!

P.S I got a kick out of that pic where you apparently can order nyama choma while hearing the word of the Lord! Only in Kenya. lol

good to see this road is finally being done. How a government can let such a vital road lie in shambles for soo long is beyond me.

Watching the video quoted above mentions that 45km of the 80 something km road is being done now. Then they will get funding for the rest.Still better than what ever is there now.
IMO as soon as the great migration was mentioned as one of the earths wonder's, the whole road should have been re-done...in gold even

Residents blocked this road for hours protesting failure by the government to provide better road to this vital resource. There was a gridlock of very inconvenienced tourists vehicles which could not get to the park and others who had to miss their flights home. Still, point taken.

the problem in kenya is that most major highways are so narrow with no lanes and shoulders..if i had the power, i would throw all these fake con artists kenyan contractors in jail.kenyans need to wake up and demand better services..if the original plan says that the highway is supposed to be 12m wide, as an expample ,with yellow line in the middle and white lanes, then we should take a tape measure to confirm that before the contractor gets paid.

There has been three blockades of this road in a span of two weeks, well that can take its toll on tourist numbers if it is sustained.

12 meters is more than wide enough for two lanes including shoulder. The widest road you would see here in Norway is 10 m, unless it is divided. Most are around 7-8 meters though. But yes, by all means check that the road really is 12m wide when it's supposed to be so.

When we talk of equal opportunity to all, it should mean that every one has an equally fair chance of making ends meet with an equal amount of struggle. So transport companies both by air and road should use fairly the same costs to earn a proportionate income. In this case, road transporters are using far too many resources to earn a living. Also the poor state of the road is driving away potential customers away from the road to the planes. This makes road transporters lose income, but also reduces the tourists disposable income which reduces the amount they can spend in the park, which denies businesses in the park an income. Think of equal opportunity to all!! May be people in our government don't think deeply or if they do, they don't care about others plight!!
