Some like you don't like it, and it's basically personal tastes. Many love it and really do enjoy the design... hopefully when it's all built out and done you'll change your mind but I respect your opinion about the design.

I'm not sure if I like the location of this supertall the thin style doesn't fit in with its surroundings.

Yes, midtown Manhattan...what a ridiculous location for a tall building!

It will look a lot better when all the glass windows are in and it looks more blue rather than apricot/orange.

Myself, I can't wait for the opening up of the mechanical floors. Breaking up the monotony of the surface elements with those bands of open air, creating that "floating stack of towers," is one of the best elements of the design.

Great pic......... what's that older building in the foreground with the setbacks and brick/ stone façade? Only other tower of any great aesthetic design in the last pic...... the others are just tall with no heart or soul. There are some really nice older buildings though featured among the more modern crap in a couple of the other pics.

The older building is Bergdoff & Goodmans mens store. The womens store is across the street, you can't that in the pic.

Personally, I'm enjoying seeing the building in two-tone - very colourful. I think I'll miss it when the windows go all blue.

Am I in the business? No... I don't have great qualifications, don't consider myself an expert. I love the pace of the city.... next time snark at your computer if you don't like my comments but please don't give a veiled insult without going into an explanation why you find my comments so amusing. Are there not vast stretches of soulless, uninspiring towers evident especially in the Midtown area? I was pointing out to my friend the post 1950 crap as well as the good older stuff that remained. Then excitedly pointing out the new towers going up that will make for a very different, far more positive impression to both those from the city and visiting on business or pleasure.
My comment wasn't personal towards you but rather noting that I think your original post had an ironic contradiction, in that you were lauding 432 park for it's "simplicity" yet referring to the myriad of buildings from a certain era as "soulless, uninpsiring." Point being many of those towers likely exuded the same cheers for minimalism when they were first created, be it the glass boxes, concrete monoliths or whatever became possible due to the latest construction techniques. Then, as with this tower, you'll likely find critics praising the ingenuity while also tormented with the bland, mechanical logic of it all. It suggests that if we get more buildings like 432 that somewhere down the line people will view those in the same light as the myriad of soulless internationalist-style towers filling the cityscape.

That you like 432 for the minimalist approach - great. Enjoy and revel in the product. I simply thought your particular comparison was, peculiar. (Next time I'll include more smilies)

Cheers.
