never builts!!- rare finds

got around to scan a architecure book from 1990. It has some great 80's never built skyscrapers.some of you might know them, or not.

Lambton Quays,Wellington
In 1990 this would of been NZ tallest skyscraper at 31st /137m (spire) It also had a roof top observation at 120m.not sure ever become of the project?
(ive just added it to ss.com)

SYDNEY

Skytower-102storeys/421m Donald Crone architects
man this one would of been amazing!!! checkout how small it makes Hilton look. It was 381m to roof. i remember it being same height as ESB.

190 Harrington st,23storey/90m office
this one was approved and never executed. A recent DA calls for a 40storey resi tower to start this year.

Angel Place Tower-60storeys/244m. office
This tower designed by Dino Burratini ,was the tallest bldg ever approved in Sydney.Excavations commenced in 1990 and then the wall st crash happened and that was over. devlopers ran scared.2 years later the DA lapsed and then new heights came in at 235m height limit, but also Martin place had shadow guidlines and limited tower to 150m. damn!!

george st elevation

Governor phillip tower place getters 3rd-

checkout this one> a 200m tower with restored CAGA house.

runner up to current design
200m looks a bit like RCA in NYC

---------------------------------

Brisbane Tower
500m- never built. you can see AMP in background, not sure of location?does anyone have anymore info on this one?

melbourne

Casseldon Place (with spire) ,yes this did get built but not with 40m spire. It would of taken eight to 208m.looks ok.

PERTH
222m/52st office tower for site of Westralia Square behind Perth tech college, facing Mounts Bay Road..
architects-Hassell group

Very nice! Pity about Skytower, that was a stunner. 190 Harrington st looks really classy too, another pity.

*cries*

Why do you always bring back the pain of Angel Place Cul?!?! And that Skytower would have been crazy... just amazing. I think those days are forever gone from Sydney, the days when there was a real pioneering spirit about tall buildings. Now the nimby-ists and the much maligned height restrictions rule the CBD.

Wait, I want to MARRY that skytower proposal. Someone tell me that it's legal.

Brisbane Tower could have been interesting if Brisbane Central was also built. Oh yes!

Dunno if it's legal. Kind of a kinky fetish maybe

Yes, and Sydney got Citigroup instead of Skytower. All 102-levels of that glass and bracing, just gone...

They're would of been excellent scrapers in the cities they were planned for even if they were a bit over the top. Knowing that most these were never built or had their designs altered, It makes me cry.

Skytower would have to rate as the best proposal for the Park Plaza site. The black glass and external bracing makes it look stunning. They should of kept this as the heights of the tower were scaled down. Was this one of Bond Corp's proposals for their Sydney HQ?

& Angel Place, another sad sight. I wonder why they didn't stick it out, even if it mean't postponing it for a few years to let the market settle down. There were even disputes over what was allowed as part of the development. I read last year that AMP had problems with the council over the number of parking spots permitted as part of the D/A. They wanted more but the council said NO.

I think the Land & Environment Court will give the nod.
