My friend went overseas recently, and he spoke with some Argentinians he met in Asia. Even with a lot overseas people, Sydney is seen as a popular destination, but seen as being very expensive. You hear of a lot of people leaving Sydney, but then they get replaced by others who want to live here.

I suppose people here are prepared to suffer a little, because on a nice day in Sydney you get what you just can't get in other cities in Oz. It can just sometimes be hard to get to where you want to go. Part of my reason is also because of family.

Better start now then but do not expect dream home or best location for a few years yet. It's possible to paint, do minor repairs, buy 2nd hand/Ikea, etc., and accept that it is not easy but a long term project that will, with any luck, get you established & pay off in the end.

Just wanted to post updates on the Sydney Trains Rail Operations Centre and Dangrove Art Storage Facility. Both have very striking facades and will really look great once they're complete.

The roof of Dangrove is now covered in solar panels which due to the angle are best viewed from McEvoy St.

I just came across this video from last year.

NORTH ROSEBERY

DA lodged for a large site between Dunning & Mentmore avenues just south of Epsom Road.

Application number D/2017/1528

Address 5-15 Dunning Avenue ROSEBERY NSW 2018

Description Stage 1 Concept development application for building envelopes for a 7 storey residential building

Estimated Cost $66,000,000

Includes 1-3 Mentmore Avenue.

___
This is part of CoS's 6-7 storey zone.

The current 1960s/1970s industrial complex is remarkably unremarkable and almost anything would be an improvement.

WATERLOO

McEVOY @ 10-20 McEVOY STREET

Young & Hunter streets.

Architect: STANISIC ARCHITECTS

Construction update @ 10 nov.

The east end at McEvoy & Young streets, looking west.

The east building front to McEvoy Street.

Looking west along McEvoy Street.

The west building front to McEvoy Street.

WHY are the two buildings in the same project by the same architect so overtly different in style, material and character? Ask the design gurus at CoS.
Certainly contradicts all that I ever learned about the aesthetics of architecture & design.

Re price of housing in Zetland...
There's also the impact of negative gearing to consider- and many Australians benefit from this policy. The only problem is that it fuels a misallocation of resources into real estate.
This is exacerbated by the huge amount of overseas investment in real estate by investors whose markets are already over inflated eg China.
Add that to a shortage and I see no long term end to this unless those factors change too.

Has anybody heard about any plans by City of Sydney to connect any roads, paths or cycle paths in the area of Alexandria bounded by McEvoy, Wyndham, Mandible and Bowden?

Specifically extending McCauley St through to Mandible?

Best try City of Sydney.

I've not heard of any such plans except to extend Geddes Avenue from Botany Road to O'Riordan Street, maybe one day to Bourke Road at/near Bowden St.

The short section of O'Riordan Street from Wyndham Street to Botany Road will eventually be closed and O'Riordan switched around a bit to connect more directly to Wyndham at Bourke.

Thanks. That's all I've heard about as well. I think he just got mixed up with those plans. Doing anything in the area I described doesn't really achieve much.

WATERLOO ~ LACHLAN PRECINCT

CROWN GROUP: 44-48 O'DEA AVENUE

At last, some news!

http://www.crowngroup.com.au/news/ar...-sydney-tower/

WORLD-CLASS ARCHITECTS IN DESIGN COMPETITION FOR NEW SYDNEY TOWER

SEP
5
2017
World-class architects including Japanese-firm Kengo Kuma and Associates are set to compete to design a landmark new development in Sydney.

Leading Australian developer Crown Group, today announced five firms have entered the competition to design its upcoming development at 48 O’Dea Avenue Waterloo, a site with potential for panoramic views of the ocean and Sydney’s iconic central business district.

Turner, Crone Architects and FJMT will enter individually while Kengo Kuma and Associates will collaborate with Koichi Takada Architects on a joint submission.

Entries will be judged by an independent panel of experts including property industry and government representatives, assessing architectural design excellence.

Crown Group Chairman and Group CEO Iwan Sunito said the high calibre of entrants was a clear signal of Sydney’s new place as one of the leading architectural cities in the world.

“This field of entrants clearly shows the world-class talent we have here in Australia and highlights the increasing number of international architects looking to design for the Sydney skyline,” Mr Sunito said.

“These architects have proven to be true leaders in their field, renowned for their creativity. The winning design is certain to be a unique creation for Sydney.

“Crown Group recognises the significance of Waterloo which is the new Manhattan of Sydney, the city’s new creative hub, by inviting the world’s finest architects to be part of this competition,” he added.

The 20-storey mixed-use project will include luxury apartments, restaurants, retail outlets alongside new roads, infrastructure and private parks.

It will be Crown Group’s third project in Waterloo, following the award-winning Viking by Crown Group completed in 2014 and the recently launched Waterfall by Crown Group.

Set to be constructed on a prime site in Sydney’s Waterloo, the future building would provide panoramic views of the city to the north and east to the ocean.

cont. link for bios on each competing firm.

EDIT Article says winner will be (was?) announced in October. I can find no mention of it so over to you guys who are cleverer at this than I am.
