A LRTS (Light Rail Transport System) can be planned from Nilackal to Pampa for transporting pilgrims to and fro so that the current crowd/rush can be controlled.

In the existing road, to straighten a curve, to extend a culvert .. All require Forest dept. clearance as per present Forest laws and other legal requirements.

How and Where is the LRTS going to come up.?? It will require a Terminal also in the Forest end.

First ..... Let us get the present Angamaly-Erumeli railway completed with good facilities at Erumeli for Pilgrims.

Second ...... Get Erumeli-Punalur railway also constructed with facilities at Punalur.

Greens up in arms against Mysuru-Madikeri and Mysuru-Thalassery rail line projects

MYSORE: Activism is building up in Kodagu with local environmentalists campaigning hard against any new railway proposals on the grounds that it is inimical to the ecology of the district.

This includes the Mysuru-Madikeri railway line for which the survey work has already been completed. The other project is the Mysuru-Thalassery railway line, the survey of which was approved in the general budget for 2017-18.

The Mysuru-Madikeri railway line was listed in the Railway Budget 2016-17 under “new line” category at an estimated cost of ₹667 crore and the techno-economic survey was completed. But the project — originally mooted over 100 years ago — did not gain further traction. The funding was to be made under the extra budgetary allocation, but it is stuck in the maze of bureaucracy.

Similarly, the Mysuru-Thalassery railway line was mooted almost 60 years ago but it remained on paper. However, there is fresh traction for a new survey reckoned to have a new alignment so as to bypass the forestland, national parks and so on and avoid eco-sensitive zones.

But a senior official in the Forest Department told that the proposal was still in a “very preliminary stage” and it was too premature to comment on its likelihood of securing environmental clearance. However, the project has political support in Kerala as it reduces the travel time between North Kerala and Bengaluru, he added.

Meanwhile, C.P. Muthanna of Coorg Wildlife Society (CWS), said that they have already expressed their opposition to railway lines to Kodagu. “The State government has been apprised of the negative environmental fallout of railway projects passing through Kodagu as a whole and district in-charge Minister M.R. Seetharaman has agreed to write to the Centre opposing it,” said Mr. Muthanna.

Besides, Kodagu is already saddled with high human-elephant conflict and such projects would dismember or disturb the habitat further and accentuate the conflict, according to CWS.

The organisation recently conducted a Save Cauvery rally expressing fears over the environmental implications of major infrastructure projects that could cut through the forest area of the district and erode its green cover.

If locals in Coorg is against this line, then Nilambur-Nnajangud is the only hope.

If Kodava people are adamant on not allowing Railway Line through their district, it is better we try other options, especially through Mysore or Chamarajnagar district. We should also try connectivity to both Talassery and Nilambur to proposed Mysore line - that benefit both North Malabar, South Malabar, Wayanad, Central Kerala and South Kerala.

In such a situation, constructing a line to Nanjangud is ideal. There is already an existing line between Nanjangud and mysore.

My proposal is:

1) Nilambur Road-Chungathara-Pothukal-Chooralmala-Meppadi-Kalpetta-Muttil-Meenangadi-Moonnanakuzhi Jn Line

2) Talassery Jn - Koothuparambu - Periya - Boys Town - Tavinjal - Mananthavady - Panamaram - Nadavayal - Kenichira - Moonanakuzhi Jn Line

3) Moonnanakuzhi - Irulam - Pulpally - Mullenkolly - Padichira - Kolavally - N.Begur-Agathur-HD Kote - Madapura - Hampapura - Hullahalli - Nanjangud Line

This Moonnanakuzhi is a Central Point for 4 towns - Meenangadi, Sulthan Bathery, Pulpally, and Panamaram. So people in Sulthan Bathery (10 km) can also benefit from this line.

The third line is passing through Mysore District.

These three railway lines are passing through minimum forest area. So no difficulty in getting approval.

Alternate proposal is:

1) Nilambur Road-Chungathara-Palunda-Pothukal-Munderi-Chooralmala-Meppadi-Puthoorvayal-Kalpetta Line

2) Kalpetta-Muttil-Meenangadi-Moonnanakuzhi-Irulam-Kalluvayal-Pulpally Line

3) Talassery Jn - Pattiam - Cheruvancherry - Kannavam - Kolayad - Nedumpoil -
Periya - Boys Town - Tavinjal - Mananthavady - Payyampally - Koodalkadavu - Kuttichipatta - Pulpally Line

3) Pulpally - Mullenkolly - Padichira - Kolavally - N.Begur-Agathur-Heggadahalli (HD Kote) Belathur - Hampapura - Hullahalli - Nanjangud Line

Seems Silchar will get connected with southern cities for the first time.

Demand should be to regularize the weekly TVC-Guwahati Express to Daily.

Have any new trains come to chengotaa as per new time table ? We can expect Chennai/Banglore/Hyderbad/Assam trains once this completed.
Electrification of all Tamilnadu State and rest of Kerala will be a bottle neck in the long run.
Hope to see this path getting electrified along with Kanniyakumari - trivandrum section

This one wont be touching Chennai Central most probably, which means we dont have to consider the congestion there to make the train Daily.
Looks SR has made a positive move by taking out the NE bound trains from Chennai Central.
We have a second largest city following Chennai, the Kovai Junction, which happens to be a hairpin pain for Kerala bound trains that pass via Tamilnadu. Needs to address this issue as well by making trains stopover at Pothannur.
