Looking at the numbers on paper makes it look like Liverpool isn't doing too bad. It is compared to the major airports relatively small, yet it can still see 240,000 passengers in the month AFTER Christmas. OK we would like more but we should be thankful for those numbers in the current climate.
I would guess Zanderdad is talking about air transport movements, of which Southampton and Gurensey have more as they have lots of small business flights with few passengers, whereas the bulk of LJLA's movements have 150 or more. Despite the recent falls, January's passengers figures still put us ahead of Newcastle and East Midlands, and not far behind Belfast International. RIP is hardly the term to us for the country's 12th busiest airport.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport taking the long-term view on local economy

LIVERPOOL John Lennon Airport is part of the Superport strategy and new chief executive Matthew Thomas is confident it will contribute even more to the regional economy.

Currently commercial director, Mr Thomas takes up his new role on March 1.

He said passenger traffic will grow at JLA in the second half of the year, particularly from Ryanair, and growth in freight volumes is on the wish list.

But he said JLA also has to consider its role in the wider economic picture, particularly the visitor economy.

He uses new operator Norwegian, the third largest budget carrier in Europe which introduces its first route at Liverpool to Copenhagen this spring, as an example.

He said: “We expect 75% of traffic to be inbound, different to what we normally have, which is exporting Liverpudlians to other parts of the world.

“The market is unbelievably competitive but we need to take the holistic view on the value of inbound tourism beyond the airport and consider the hotel and catering industry in the city.

“We have to look at how we can bring more overseas visitors here.”

From that point of view he said he sees his focus as more of a business development role.

He added: “Norwegian will hopefully bring more growth. We are also looking to introduce more airlines to Liverpool and we are looking at the leisure market.”

The analysis and narrative are not quite right. This route serves Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales, not just Liverpool. This route supports tourism and jobs in Manchester as much as Liverpool. LJLA is a local airport for Manchester, just as Manchester Airport is a local airport for Liverpool. There is no scope for parochialism here - foreigners don't give a damn about that stuff. This route should be marketed in Denmark and southern Sweden to those visiting Manchester as well as those visiting Liverpool region, North Wales and beyond.

Meanwhile, there is some major entertainment on another site regarding the poster on here who regularly states 'thats it, I am off'. He has tried that line on there, again, and its welcomed by all.

Give it a rest Snapper. This thread has long been amongst the worst in this forum because it spends more time airing personal vendettas than it does providing factual insight.

You are missing the point with the common factor being the BA employee that even on his home ground has been rumbled as being a fraud.

What a fantastic advert you are for Liverpool...

Antagonistic and confrontational is not the word.

You are deliberately missing the point as I have 'reported' what happened on another forum..

The BA employee, the self proclaimed bringer of glad tidings to this forum, comes on here to provoke and is seen through, he goes on his own site and even then is seen through by its owners and other mods, and has now even logged into the dreaded PPRUNE!

... this site for example.

You have mentioned that easyjet were to start two routes, Southend and Newquay, from Liverpool - wrong.

Other sites - Aeroflot at Manc, Air Canada at Manc, easyjet contract at Liverpool - all wrong.

How many times have you withdrawn from sites? You cant even stand by your own word!

No need to go on.

No one cares. Personal issues from other sites should be left on that site.

It's not fair on the rest of us.

Thumbs down

Blue Snapper

Grow up man.

This is an airport forum, not one for stupid, childish, purile point scoring.

If you can't bring anything of value to the thread, go rearrange your airplane models or give your anorak a steam wash.

"He said, he's done that, look what he's done, well he said...." Blah; boring.

Couldn't put it better myself. Snapper, nobody gives a damn about your personal battles for truth and justice. But what we do care about is the way you continuously clog up and ruin what should be an enlightening forum with personal grievances. It's interesting to note that since you chased a certain member away, there have been almost no postings with any information in them for others to consider. Stick to discussion about the airport and the factors which affect it. If you can't abide by that simple rule then quite frankly, take yourself somewhere else.

The font of knowledge regarding LPL declared himself the bringer of glad tidings in this thread, something you may have missed in the 30 odd days you have been on here.

But in the meantime, despite what he has said to the contrary, easyjet have NOT signed a new contract [yet] and LPL is to get a new route to another overseas airport in the Vantage portfolio.
