Emirates needs all the help it can get, good call, it is really better than 10th on the list.

I just voted EK airline of the year also, will go back, and vote on all the other surveys.

Here's the link so we can get some more forumers voting.

Emirates' announcement to open a daily service to Barcelona and an additional daily flight to Madrid, after only entering the country in 2010, shows how Spain is unique for Emirates in being a major European market with no incumbent local competition since Iberia operates what it calls a "90 degree hub"

Noir, you'll like this extract from the Dubai 2020 World Expo bid website

Quote:
The new Al Maktoum International airport, already receiving cargo flights, is adjacent to the site and will be open for passenger flights by 2020. At full capacity Al Maktoum will have the ability to carry 160 million passengers a year. By 2020 a new high speed transit rail will link Al Maktoum to Dubai International Airport, itself predicted to be the world’s busiest airport by 2015.

Nice stuff Face, when was this released ? A few month back we heard news they won't have a high speed rail link connecting the two airports. I'm confussed now.

Going to post this on FT aswel, thanks.

The bid was submitted in the first week of November, so I am guessing it was put up then, so something exciting to watch for!

Paul Griffiths may think he controls all the decisions, but he doesn't, really I said it before and I will say it agin, they cannot and will not completely abandon DXB to turn in to some cheap real estate project. I just don't see it happening after the countless billions being poured in to it. Dubai can manage with two airports, no problem. Maybe EK and FlyDubai will gradually give up DXB and leave it for international carriers? That's a possibility, but way too soon to speculate something like that!

And here's an old, but cool video about the baggage handling facility at DXB.... If it's currently 5 stories below ground, how deep will the new one be??

Emirates Airbus A340-500 Mahe Seychelles Go Around

One more for you

Emirates Airbus A340-500 - Mahe, Seychelles. Go-around recorded from Business Class on an early morning arrival. The Captain announced before the decent that there were 30kts cross-winds on the runway, with swirling winds gusting up to 60kts. You don't get much of a sense of the wind from the video but the aircraft was yawing and pitch quite a lot. We landed on the second attempt, but the approach was much worse - almost like a desperation landing as the alternate airport was in Mauritius

In addition to my reply on the Dubai Metro thread, here are some more EK rumours going around on theeksource,

Boston, Denver and Miami in Emirates Sights.
Plausibility rating 7/10.

Emirates advertisements have begun airing during local television news programmes in all three of these markets. Emirates often begin to create brand awareness 12-18 months before they plan to commence new services.

Add Chicago to this picture, and we're doing pretty GOLF - OSCAR - OSCAR - DELTA !!!!!!

I think we can safely cross out Denver as the Dallas flight has it's main source of feeder traffic from Denver, so they will not cannibalise on that market.

Miami, or Orlando would be good, but ORD, ATL, BOS or IAD are most likely, I reckon

Skies are the limit for UAE's growth

WAM Abu Dhabi, Jan 29th, 2012 (WAM) -- At a time when airlines around the world are consolidating and trying to survive, we are blessed in the UAE with two national carriers that continue to thrive and grow from strength to strength, commented Gulf News.

Last week, Abu Dhabi-based Etihad announced the acquisition of a 40 per cent stake worth $20 million (Dh73.4 million) in Air Seychelles. The move comes weeks after Etihad announced the purchase of a 29.1 per cent stake in airberlin. "Clearly, Etihad has chosen the path of strategic acquisitions to grow passenger traffic as well as expand its network of flights around the globe. In Dubai, Emirates too is growing at a remarkable rate. New services have been launched to South America, Ireland, Seattle and Barcelona as Emirates makes good on its commitment to making the world a smaller place", the paper said in its today' editorial.

With Air Arabia, flydubai and RAK Airways also growing by leaps and bounds, the aviation sector has a critical role in the economic expansion of the UAE.
