If it looks good an is a success, is there any reason why it couldn’t be a permanent development?

It would surely be something different and add a little character to that patch of land that would be difficult to develop otherwise. No doubt the footfall would increase if the Gateshead conference centre and arena come together.

That is fantastic. Loving the concept and it will really open up the quayside for similar developments on both sides of the tyne if successful. Get it permanent as well.

I'm all for this concept. This area seems to have suddenly become extremely dilapidated and overgrown.

Although I suppose it is almost 10 years since the Tuxedo Princess departed .. hmm

This proposal still looks great 8 years on... wish they'd built it.

Below is from the Opening Post of this thread.

Hillgate and The Tuxedo Princess 12th November 2000

A few photographs of the area around the Tuxedo Princess when she was a going concern back in November 2000. A lot tidier then.

I miss the boat. Gave the area character and dare I say it, I thought it was a good club (although not so much towards the end).

This set of photographs were taken of the Tuxedo Princess's departure from the Tyne on 27th July 2008 when she was towed to Turkey and broken up.

Tyne Tugs in attendance to tow the vessel down river to the Northumbria Quay were Svitzer Maltby and Yarm Cross. She was transferred to an ocean going tug for her final departure from the river.

Could we not get an old warship being used as a visitors attraction down there?

It annoys me that the council are only now actually doing something, instead of continual maintenance especially in such a prominent location. Anyone know if the council owns the land?
