Hejaz Railway, Saudi Arabia (Destroyed in WWI)

Hejaz Railway: (Destroyed in WWI)

Hejaz Railway: (Destroyed in WWI)

Thanks to Lawrence of Arabia

~One of the Ottoman influences in Hijaz~

The Hejaz Railway was originally built to transport pilgrims from Damascus to
Madinah. The concept of the railway presented a financial as well as an
engineering challenge, requiring a budget of some £8 million pounds.

Contributions from the Turkish sultan Abdul Hammed, the Khedive of Egypt,
and the Shah of Iran helped to raise the money. Other contributions came
from the Turkish Civil Service and armed forces, and from various fund-raising
efforts (which included the sale of titles such as Pasha or Bey).

You can see the influences from Madina until Damascus.

Here are pictures of the influences in Saudi Arabia.

nice. Saudi Arabia should open up for tourism and am sure, it'll be a hot spot as long as the security situation is sorted.

Fot those who don't know,

Arab tribes lead by Lurance (A British army man) Bombed the Railway which was transfering Turk Trops down to Mecca, Part of Arab revolution which was started as an agreement between Sharif Husssain bin Ali, Sharif Faisal and the British. resolted in withdrawal of Ottomans from Arabian lands.

Just a small correction, it didn't go all the way to Mecca, it stopped at Medina.

And that started the british / french occupation of Arab lands (still europeans are better than turks right?? ) and handover of jerusalem to british (they couldn't take it by force through turkish hands but arabs handed it over to them..) and eventually resulted in the creation of Israel that Arabs hate now!!

Now the same terroristic tactics that were used by british are being used against coalition forces in Iraq!?!?

Coincidence eh..?

I like, as the majority of Arabs, Turks more then the Europeans. (With their
advantages and disadvantages). It is so sad my people betrayed them.

BUT lets donít forget this Quranic aya (Wala tazero wazeraton wezra ukhra).

Marshal I strongly agree with you spicily the examples you mentioned
previously .

Marshal the ''terrorists'' of before were nationalistic and didnt care about religion which is good for the west, now the new age of ''terrorism'' arent like the last one they want to make a united islamic country, the ones before agreed on each having their ''own'' country not unified to fill their own desire like Sherif Hussein he wanted to be the ''king'' of Arabs, its like this

The Dark side of the Force and the Good side of the force, before the terrorists were with the Dark side of the force and eventually all the Dark force united in way... Now the small faction of the good side of the force wants to take all it has lost... it had enough actually from all the humiliation and want to revive the old Islamic phoenix of before. Eventually it will happen! look at history once its the Arabs in power then the europeans, then the arabs then the europeans, now its been enough that the west has been in power like China said, the 21st century is Arabia's century! Its just a matter of time There isnt any goverment or a regime in the world that lasted there isnt any kingdom in Arabia that ever lasted... People had enough look at egypt! Its divided into 2 main factions, Muslims and the Athiest, both dont want Mubarak's regime but can they agree on one regime uniting them? that will be availble for us to know only in the future!

When did China say Arabs are going to be a Superpower??

And looking by the way of things, it is going to be the Century of the Asia..!

And anani, arab pride aside, what kind of development or progress do you see that is a precursor to a superpower rising or an emerging power???

Remember 7th century scenarios may not hold true now!! Just telling..

I can't draw conclusion of many confused ideas, some are even wrong!

Thanks Hijazzey for your point, this is correct.

However, ultimate destination was Mecca. it could be the geography of Mecca that didn;t allow the railroad to go further, who knows.
