Quick Question Folks

I was made to board a train yesterday which did not stop at the platform but the track was in the center of the 2 platforms opp to each other and we had to walk over the tracks to take the train ( it was also very low (double Decker) ).
Do we really need a pit line to start trains?

Train Takes Mangalore Passengers on Gulbarga Ride

By Ramkrishna Badseshi - GULBARGA
Published: 16th April 2014 09:16 AM
Last Updated: 16th April 2014 09:16 AM

Passengers waiting at Gulbarga railway station on Tuesday morning were puzzled to see the Okha (Gujarat)-Ernakulam Express, which is not assigned this route, pass through the station. They were in for another surprise as the train, which passed the station without halting, returned in five minutes, only to halt there for more than three hours.

The Okha-Ernakulam Express runs on the Konkan route but due to a derailment in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri, many trains have been diverted on alternative routes.
D D Sahu, Scientific Assistant of Kaiga Generating Station 3 & 4, who was travelling on the train, told Express that he had boarded the train at Surat enrote to Mangalore. The train was supposed to reach Ernakulam via Ratnagri, Madgaon, Udupi and Mangalore. When the train reached Panvel, the driver got a message that due to the derailment near Ratnagiri, his train was diverted to Pune. At Pune station, authorities announced on the public address system that the train has been diverted to Madgaon.
Hoping they would reach Madgaon by Tuesday noon, the passengers went to sleep. When they woke up at about 7 am, they became suspicious when the train passed Gulbarga. By then the coaches had run out of water.

Sahu said some passengers pulled the chain near the Koranti Hanuman temple in Gulbarga and asked the engine driver where the train was heading and when it would reach Madgaon. When he could not give satisfactory reply, the passengers forced him to drive back to Gulbarga railway station.

Hundreds of passengers gheraoed Gulbarga station master D V Raman Rao. They questioned why the train was skipping Madgaon. Rao, who was unaware of the developments, contacted higher authorities. Passengers were then given the option of cancelling their tickets. At about 1.20 pm, the railways decided to take passengers to Ernakulam via Madgaon and instructed the Gulbarga railway officials to divert the train to Madgaon via Hotgi.

Railway officials in Gulbarga told Express that there was no need to bring train to Gulbarga since it could have been diverted to Madgaon from Hotgi after Solapur.
A Central Railway officer at Solapur ruled out any action against officials. He denied there was any confusion over the routes and said that it was decided to run the train to Ernakulam via Gulbarga.

The second train via panvel , I dont know how it takes less time, but this will be boost to connectivity via Belguam , since there are good number of people travelling between Belgaum and Mangalore and daily train any time welcome.

Bangalore-Hassan new railway line.

This will provide shorter route between Bangalore and Mangalore.
Currently there are two train running between these two cities.
16517/8 Yeshwantpur-Kannur which takes 12.30hr and two engine reversal at Mysore and Hassan.
16515/6 Yeshwantpur-Karwar which takes 10.15hrs with engine reversal and Arsikere..
With this new track via Nelamangala-Kunigal-Shravanagelagola, it is expected to reduce travel time by atleast 2hrs

This is where the track deviates away from Bangalore-Tumkur line towards Nelamangala from Chikkabanawara station

This is where track comes and joins at Hassan Jn from Kunigal-Shravanabelagola

Train Accident averted at Bellary.
Some time back the same HYB-KOP Express had and accident in Bellary and now it might have been repeated if the railway personnel had not alerted the railway staff to stop the train.

Bangalore - Mysore Doubling and Electrification

I see no progress in the shifting of Tippu's Armoury. Can't SWR take a page out of SR and strengthen the old bridges over River Cauvery till such time they shift the Armoury. CAG should investigate the delay and cost and penalise the planners and engineers for routing it plumb in front of the monument inspite of objections from ASI ! And since the bridges are more or less complete and they are unable to shift this great monument the whole expenditure becomes infructuous and those responsible will go scott free in our country.

The second line is being constructed on the new bridge and you can see the jelly and the sleepers. The access line to the old bridge has been removed and I feel the speed trials for the second line between Settihalli and Maddur will be in May. With this Bangalore - Mandya doubling will be complete. Electrification has to be done between Shettihalli and Mandya.
