BANJA LUKA

Banja Luka [Serbian: Бања Лука, Banja Luka] is a city located in region called Krajina, unoficially it's also capital city of Krajina. Banja Luka is also a capital city of Republic of Srpska [Serbian: Република Српска, Republika Srpska], and it's a second biggest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through city flows one of the most beautiful rivers in this part of Europe, river Vrbas, which is especially beautiful in this area. Since there wasn't any sort of census in Bosnia and Herzegovina since '91, we don't know how many citizens does Banja Luka have, but it is believed that city has nearly ~300.000 inhabitants. A big part of them [~40 percents] are refugees from Croatia [part of Krajina that's located in Republic of Croatia], and Federation of Bosniaks and Croats, second federal unit of Bosnia and Herzegovina. City has a few nicknames: "Krajina's beauty" [Serbian: Крајишка љепотица, Krajiška ljepotica], "Castra" [Serbian: Кастра, Kastra], "Green city" [Serbian: Зелени град, Zeleni grad] and others. It is beleived that most beautiful girls in the former Yugoslavia live in Banja Luka. City is also known by banjalućki ćevap [turkish meat meal, also known as dönner kebab], handball club "Borac" - champions of Europe '91, football club "Borac" - winners of Marshall Tito Cup in Yugoslavia '91, city's parks and a lot of trees everywhere, and big earthquake in '61 that demolished half of the city. Right now city is growing pretty fast becoase many people from Croatia, Federation of BiH and Serbia are moving in. Anyway, here are some photos of the city taken a 4,5 years ago:

nice photos. The city looks very green, too bad that only so little of the historic center is left though.

@Florekf: So that explaines those Polish pictures and texts in Google I usually see on 3rd or 4th page :)

@Urbane: Check Banja Luka construction thread in "City updates" section, there are some old photos in a last few pages over there: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...06#post7427006

very nice photos. When where this buildings demolished ? During WWII or during Tito's period or more recently ?

By the way, I looked at some of the new projects and they seem to be quite nice as well.

In 1969, a devastating earthquake damaged many buildings in Banja Luka.

Well, in Bosnia the city is also known as " The Green City".

One of the most beautiful cities in Eastern Europe. Banja Luka has charm, it's clean, green, modern, historical and has great girls!

In all honesty, it looks kind of boring. No different to any other provincial town.

Has some nice aspects thou but thats about it.

Gees, for someone that called Zagreb boring, he sure doesn't like his little provincial town of Banja Luka being called the same thing.

Anyway, IMO Banja Luka look like a nice little place.
