"Kellogg’s makes the move to MediaCityUK"

"Cereals giant Kellogg's has moved into its UK headquarters to MediaCityUK - in fun fashion.

The 420 staff made the move to Orange after almost 30 years in Old Trafford. Kellogg’s will take up three floors of the building, sharing it with The University of Salford, Ericsson and ITV.

It will be home to the company’s UK and Irish sales and marketing business as well as support functions for its European operations, including those involved in research, food development, marketing, sales, human resources and finance.

Kellogg’s announced its arrival in fun fashion with Tony the Tiger taking over TfGM Metrolink travel announcements with a friendly welcome message at the MediaCityUK tram stop.

The iconic mascot was also spotted meeting people off the tram at Kellogg’s new home, stopping for selfies at Cornbrook station and adding a little cheer to the otherwise busy, rush hour commute from Piccadilly.

Actor Tom Clarke Hill, the voice of Tony the Tiger, came to Manchester to record the tram announcements in Transport for Greater Manchester’s Trafford depot.

Clarke Hill said: “I’ve been the voice of Tony the Tiger for nearly 20 years. I used to watch the Kellogg’s Frosties adverts when I was a kid and mimic the voice, over time practise makes perfect.

“It has been really exciting to be involved in this latest project, it is has been really fun to be involved in the next chapter of the company – the move to MediaCity, it’s going to be grrrreat!” "

"Manchester rises to third in LSH vitality index"

"The city climbed from ninth to third in Lambert Smith Hampton’s UK Vitality Index for 2018, released this week, which also revealed Macclesfield as another impressive North West performer.

The index is an annual assessment of which towns and cities outside London are best-placed to support business growth, looking at factors such as entrepreneurialism, productivity, population changes, wage growth and levels of education.

It is put together by pulling together information from 20 different datasets, using sources such as the Office for National Statistics, the Department for Education, DEFRA, Experian and CACI. The 66 largest UK locations outside the capital are covered.

For the third year running, Cambridge came out on top, but Manchester’s climb of six places made it the strongest performer of the core cities. It was ranked as the fifth most entrepreneurial city, tenth in productivity, and was ranked second in the fastest-growing list.

Macclesfield was ranked joint eighth most entrepreneurial, and tenth in the ‘growing affluence’ table. No North West location made the top ten in ‘The Greenest’ list or the most highly educated ranking.

LSH said that a large part of Manchester’s improved performance in the ranking came as a result of the workforce seeing wages increase by 8% over the last two years compared to the UK average of 4%.

Overall, the top 10 towns and cities in the UK Vitality Index 2018 are:

1 Cambridge
2 Oxford
3 Manchester
4 Brighton & Hove
5 Edinburgh
6 Guildford
7 Bristol
8 Reading
9 Milton Keynes
10 St Albans

Isabel Watterson, senior analyst at LSH, said: “While Cambridge has stolen the headlines again, the most striking result this year is the meteoric rise of Manchester.

“The unofficial capital of the Northern powerhouse is really cementing its position as the UK’s second city, boasting a growing reputation as a hotbed for creative talent and new businesses. Manchester also led a tangible improvement across the Northern Powerhouse, with Leeds, Sheffield and Liverpool’s rankings all improving upon last year.”"

Yeah but who cares! I'm a Southerner albeit with lots of family in the North but I would say life isn't 'better' in London.. many people even with great jobs are tired of the ridiculous expense of London and many are thinking of relocating..Manchester is flying and has been on a roll for many years. Its what England needs to do..I live in Woking a satellite town of London and I'd love to live in Manchester.

"MOAF points to refurb market to meet city office appetite"

"Office take-up last year totalled 1.2m sq ft across 271 transactions in the city centre, according to the Manchester Office Agents Forum, a slight dip from the 1.3m sq ft recorded in 2016, but still above the 10-year average.

Key transactions in 2017 included 55,800 sq ft to WeWork at No1 Spinningfields and 44,000 sq ft at One St Peters Square, 77,500 sq ft to DWP at 2 St Peter’s Square, and Clyde & Co taking 69,000 sq ft at the Royal Exchange.

MOAF said that strong demand for prime office accommodation has left the market with a record low supply of Grade A office space.

With only 160,000 sq ft of prime accommodation presently available across 101 Embankment, No1 Spinningfields, 3 Hardman Square, 40 Spring Gardens and 2 St Peter’s Square, this year is expected to present opportunities for landlords to deliver refurbished products to the market.
Schemes under construction include Landmark at 180,000 sq ft, 125 Deansgate at 126,000 sq ft, Hanover at 90,000 sq ft, Circle Square at 230,000 sq ft and 11 York Street at 80,000 sq ft, the majority of which will be delivered in mid-late 2019.

Scott Shufflebottom, associate director at real estate advisors Colliers International, said: “The strong end to 2017 reinforces the sentiment of Manchester being the most active office market outside of London.

The dust has yet to settle on the decision for the UK to leave the European Union but it is the collective view of MOAF that there will be no long-term negative impact on the city centre office market. Due to the unrivalled quality of both the existing and proposed developments and the strong levels of demand from both indigenous and inward investing occupiers, we have full confidence that the rental market will continue to prosper.”

Salford Quays and Trafford performed strongly again with MOAF recording take-up at 285,200 sq ft in 2017.

The stand-out transaction involved Kellogg’s taking 48,120 sq ft at the Orange building at MediaCityUK.

South Manchester was up 17% on 2016, with 641,000 sq ft transacted, an increase on the previous three consecutive years. In the second half of 2017, larger transactions including Laing O’Rourke, Biz Space and Assetz Capital ensured that it was a strong finish to the year.

Anthony Howcroft, partner at Hallams Property Consultants, said: “The combined office take-up for the three recorded areas of Greater Manchester totals over 2.1 million sq ft, this firmly cements the region as the leading light outside of London.

Continued investment in infrastructure and the growth of Manchester Airport ensure that the whole region not just the city centre are able to share in the success and attract quality occupiers to continue the trend of growth.”

Formed in 2009, MOAF members include Avison Young, BE Group, CBRE, Colliers International, Canning O’Neill, Cushman & Wakefield, Edwards & Co, GVA, Hallams Property Consultants, JLL, Knight Frank, LSH, Matthews & Goodman, OBI Property, Savills, Sixteen Real Estate, and TSG Property Consultants."

It's not always a London, Manchester thing. For many, moving to a whole new city is simply not what they want to do. They have close friends and family where there live and don't want to lose that. They may also have family with kids and to uproot kids can cause all sorts of problems.

Then, remember the job move in a family is only for one person. What about the spouce's career? He/she would have to quit their job which they may love and find another one.

And people in general don't like change. Moving to a new city is a huge change.

This reluctance to change gets stronger as people get older. They develop roots where the live and as soon as you have kids, people become more worried about things that could go wrong - moving to a whole new city just for a job when they could just change jobs may not seem that enticing.

And yeah, after all this, there may be people who feel Manchester is just not as polished as London.

So it's not as easy as it may seem to young people who can easily and freely move.

It seems a lot of so-called architects can only come up with, what I call 'higgledy-piggledy' buildings where each successive floor is off-centre and looks as if a child had built it with plastic pieces. They look awful and in a few years will be so dated (but perhaps that is when they will all be redeveloped).
