The concept is good, but stupid location, it should be in a separate place as a monument, not on a round-about. Imagine if the flag falls

The last world record tallest flagpole 2011 is 165m in Tajikistan. About every year, a new record.

If saudi do it at 170m, the year after an other country will do it taller...and so on...what's the buzz?

I want too see titanic!
Enough with the flag, it's every where... Put the flag somewhere else, the roundabout is an iconic place and they should not mess with it.

Arn't there better things to do in the world if you have money to burn?

Maybe Saudi monarchs should turn to philanthropy and try and better conditions of Muslims over the world (like education, access to healthcare, etc.) rather than the never-ending lineup of ego-satisfying projects.

read carefully man
it says clearly that this work is a gift from Abdullatif Jameel Group (ALJ), as a gift for the society.
it has nothing to do with monorachs or the government, is just a group of Billionaire siblings ( worth + $ 9 Billion ) who want to give a land mark for the city.
just like the clock on AL-Tahlia street (By Ismae'el Abo Dauod) and some other stuff which was given by Mohammad Farsi , so basically " mn 7km fe malh ma 6'lm"
Although I don't agree with the location (for example what about AL-Salam Park *check photos for the new park* here ) but at the same time I don't see why not doing it, specially it will cost nothing of the public money

i don't know why people think nothing happens in saudi arabia unless if there is some sort of monarch spirit behind it. I'm the last guy who gets frustrated about such things but now I am.

I would be surprised if this group isn't under the patronage of a saudi prince or something such.

However, not to doubt. Glad at least that this is more of a private venture than another narcissistic project.

ALJ is a total private sector, in fact this group is one of the biggest shareholders in Toyota and the distributer of Toyota in 12 countries including Japan itself! Not to mention Germany, UK, China...etc. They have nothing to do with a saudi prince and they need nothing from any. Please be surprised and don't type about what you don't know. I find what you typed about ALJ is insulting specially that the founders of the company are hard working people. You have a very weird logic.
