I don't think anyone here minds you having an opinion, it's just that the rest of us can't quite see the beauty that you see.
On a side note, I think I'll visit this place in person and see it up close. There may be something there that I'm missing.

I asked my girlfriend when she thought Guild had been built (showed her the picture from the last page) she said 1993.
this is from someone with no interest in planning/development/architecture (ie. the 99.5% of the population who don't read this board). |

There is no planning regulation that allows the CoM to approve or reject things based on their aesthetic merit.. unfortunately.

I will admit for me the aerial shot makes it look better. But is reminds me a bit of Stalingrad...

For everyone lamenting the sheer ugliness of this one, it might be explained by the fact that this was one of Justin Madden's call-ins that was approved 'urgently' to keep people in construction jobs during the GFC... and then it didn't get built until 2011-12.
I think Verve on City Rd was another of Madden's call ins, that is only just now being built. |

Guild - this is a piece of crap. the concrete is dirty, in many places the colouration doesn't match (light here, darker there) and hte 'features' (i.e. the big circles) don't actually stand out enough to be features. The only redeeming feature is the 'laneway' at the foot of the northern facade (see second picture) which has about 6-8 retail spaces (none are filled at the moment), some landscaping, sitting spaces and plenty fo bike hoops). I think they should have differentiated more between the 4-5 different sized 'blocks' that are there. eg. made one or two a completely different shade of concrete (eg. black or grey)
Hopefully the SES site is redeveloped soon (despite only being rebuilt in the last 5 years!) ![]() ![]() cleaned up JH Boyd Site - there is a cafe in the building which had a few people sitting in teh forecourt in teh sun, also a library and some meeting/conference spaces. around the outside is some landscaping and plenty of sittable spaces. out the back is a basketball hoop. the majority of the site is fenced up and still unused. ![]() Tiara Southbank on Haig's streets street frontage. zero percent active - not even the foyer is really visible from teh street. ![]() From Sturt Street all of these are over 100m but the pocket west of Kings Way south of City Road - majority finalised last 3 years!

Maybe it's a marketing ploy ? If you live there you can't see it ?

I like how you always see the positive side RB. I never thought of that aspect, it's so obvious!

Just a hint Redden. On cloudy days just turn up your exposure compensation by a couple of clicks and it'll brighten up all your images. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the hint. I always just point and shoot, but I have got the manual, so I'll work out how to do that. I thought it was all about post-processing. It's a Nikon D300, so I should get beyond using it like a camera phone!

A bit spooky redden. I was there a few hours earlier yesterday, walking past that same little exposure on Sturt St near Kingsway on the way to pick my car up from a tyre balancing. I stopped and looked at the density shot of that western part of Southbank, thought about taking a shot to post on here and then decided I couldn't be arsed! But you did so cudos to you.

Must have been on the same wavelength; my original plan was just to get a shot of Wrap.

Yeah, that inspired my post. The guy that hated it so much he went there every day so he couldn't see it. Bet deep down he felt exhilarated by looking out over Paris...typical of a myopic Luddite, Casting no aspersions here OK ; )
