also the site was meant to be prep, but google earth show no progress at all, so it should probably stay pro.

19 buildings in Chinese city blown up in the blink of an eye to make way for a skyscraper.

Gone in 10 seconds: Moment 19 buildings in Chinese city of Wuhan are blown up in the blink of an eye to make way for a skyscraper.

Nineteen buildings disappeared in the space of 10 seconds after being demolished by a controlled explosion in China yesterday.

The blocks of flats, which were up to 12 storeys high, in the city of Wuhan are making way for a huge new business district, including a 707-metre tall skyscraper.

Experts waited until dark had fallen before detonating demolition charges which brought down 150,000 square metres of concrete, glass and steel in 10 seconds.

The demolition experts had to bring down the entire housing estate without affecting a light railway viaduct that runs right past it (on the right)

The tower blocks, ranging from seven to 12 storeys tall, are believed to have been built in the 1970s but they are making way for a massive revamp of the centre of Wuhan

The residents of the Hankou Binjiang estate had been moved out weeks before.

The area is close to the city centre and the demolition contractors had to make sure that when they brought down the buildings they did not damage a light rail viaduct nearby or a shopping mall and electricity sub-station.

Jia Yongsheng, general director of the demolition company, told China’s state TV channel CCTV: ‘For this kind of large-scale blasting demolition conducted in the downtown area, we not only need to guarantee the demolition result, but also strictly control the adverse effects of blasting.’

He said five tons of explosives were spread around 120,000 locations in the buildings and the timing of each detonation was set to within a few microseconds.

‘The demolition effect was quite ideal. The explosion didn’t affect the light rail and public facilities around the blasted buildings. There was no damage and adverse effects of blasting,’ said Mr Jia proudly.

Wang Xuguang, an expert at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said it was the first time the implosion technique had been used in China and it saved the construction company four months.

Kaboom! The detonations went off at 11.50pm, waking up anyone who happened to have taken an early night in Wuhan

Special muzzles were used to reduce the size of the cloud of dust produced

After seeing the renders for this absolute beauty I gotta say that Wuhan has some of the most beautiful megatalls projects in the whole world. I love futuristic architecture!
By the way, does anyone know who designed this beautiful megatall? However after scrolling the thread I realize I like the initial design the best.

It makes economy-environmental sense for a nation with huge population as China. We might likely see something of Wuhan nature repeated in other large cities across the country.

The economics of supertalls is very interesting. I wonder what the average occupancy rate is

That's just one of the old Chongqing proposals recycled.
