Was down at Robina Town Centre yesterday, and was surprised to see that the Link Mall, built back when Myer was added to the centre, was completely borded up for reconfiguration. I will be very interested to see what goes in there, as the last time I visited (for the opening of The Kitchens) the higher quality stores that used to be in there had largely been replaced with temporary, pop-up style stores.

The more I see of the latest stage at Robina Town Centre the more I like what I see.
QIC have really done well with the design and construction of all this stuff and I imagine it will look even better when its all finished.

I'm hoping QIC brings a bit of the same magic to the reworking of the old BiLo end of the Hyperdome.

The difference between Robina and Loganholme is that Robina has been a complete rebuild of a large chunk of the centre whereas all the Hyperdome upgrades have been cosmetic and haven't changed the structure at all. So its hard to actually do anything too fancy.

I would disagree with that when it comes to the Hyperdome's Market Room. While it wasn't a new build to the same extent at Robina's new wing, it was a lot more substantial than just a cosmetic makeover. There were major structural modifications made during the market room project, including breaking up and excavating elements of the concrete slab and new and reengineered structural elements, with a small extension towards the car park as well. A lick of paint, it certainly wasn't.

Likewise, I feel the revamp of the Bi-Lo section and the future Myer remodelling could also see considerable structural alterations.

Could they do such a remodel and still allow access to the things in the area that need to stay open? (e.g. Big W and the car parks underneath the area)

The could, and have done it before. Way back when they remodelled the food court area and added the then new build Piazza, they still had to provide access from the main centre to the Home Centre, straight through the middle of the construction site.

Scentre had their half-year results today.

https://www.scentregroup.com/investo...-presentations

Focus is predictably mainly on Stage 1 of Westfield Coomera (half a billion) which is the first green-field development for them in 12 years. Completion set for 4th quarter 2018, is being designed to allow for multiple further stages.

Westfield Coomera seems to be springing out of the ground at a much faster rate than I would have expected. Every time I go past Coomera I see still more concrete springing out of the ground.

Anyone know the last major green-fields shopping centre development in SE QLD before this one?

Westfield Helensvale was Westfield's last Greenfield development opening back in 2005. Orion Springfield opened in March 2007 and stage 1 of Riverlink Ipswich in April 2007.

Update from the Bulletin, sounds promising, especially if they can integrate with a city walk type development at Dreamworld:

But expect to see plenty more cranes rising from the ground after the centre’s doors open.

The Gold Coast Bulletin can reveal up to $1 billion of further development is back in active discussions, with city leaders confident the centre will become “the Pacific Fair of the north”.

The Bulletin understands QIC, which owns a significant parcel on the southern side of Foxwell Road, is considering its options.

Mayor Tom Tate and council planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell have held meetings with developers and landowners who hold properties surrounding the centre who are activating their dormant projects.

Scentre Group chief operating officer Greg Miles said the project would form part of a large town centre.

“The future town centre will include community space, commercial, residential land, mixed-used elements which will complement the retail and lifestyle destination we are currently developing,” he said.
