COMPREHENSIVE: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir says the plan will be ready next year
IPOH: THE state government and Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) is preparing a comprehensive transport plan for Perak.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the plan was expected to be completed next year.

"The plan will prepare for the state's public transport system needs for the next 20 years," he said on a visit to the Amanjaya bus terminal.

Zambry said a pilot project involving Manjung, Perak Tengah and Ipoh would be carried out to gauge the effectiveness of the state's public transport system.

He said negotiations were ongoing with public transport companies to operate at the Amanjaya bus terminal.

"We hope all will operate here by year's end," he said, adding that 50 companies were already operating at the terminal.

Zambry disagreed with claims that the terminal was long overdue.

"When it comes to public transport, proper planning is needed. It cannot be carried out haphazardly."

Zambry said the state had received three proposals to develop the Ipoh Central project.

"I have asked the state Economic Planning Unit and SPAD to study the proposals, to see whether they are economical and viable," he said.
