Google Earth Townsville: Guess the location!

How long have there been high res images of Townsville on Google Earth (actaully I'm only using Google Maps)? Anyway it means now we can play the "guess the location" game that every other city has had fun with.

Not sure how hard this'll be but here's the first one - where is it??

Feel free to post your own

Well, here are my three locations, genuine ones directly off Google Earth itself.
Some are easy, maybe one isn't.
Here they are:

Lets see who can guess them

Let make em a bit harder ok

Gertzys are

1) nathen street bridge
2) iggy park
3) dalyrmple rd / banfield dr / angus ave roundabout

These might be hard if u dont know the area. A somewhat rural theme for these 2.

the second one isnt off google maps but the thuringowa cid website. I guess thats a hint already

Well chestRcopRpot your second one would have to be one of the northern beaches - is it Bluewater Beach? As for the first, I'll take a wild guess at...the houses on top of Mt Kulburn??? I didn't know about the Thuringowa CID maps - very cool.

I knew your first two Gertzy. Are they shade sales over the quadrangle at Iggy Park now? And yeh my first one was Rowes Bay with Siroptomist Park and Seagulls Resort. Check out that purple roof!

Yeah, they put them in about the middle of 2004, due to the new level seating rule, Iggy is starting to become a bit of a Gestapo camp lately, even Mr conn came up on assembly and said it.

Yep the first one has O'Reilly St (named after my great uncle actually) plus Arther Fadden Park with it's massive rain trees. It's a shame Townsville was so dry when thoses aerials were taken. Looks more like Brownsville

And the second one is indeed the Mater Hospital. I notice the building at bottom right has recently been demolished - they must be planning an expansion???

Yep my first one was grey boots circle in kelso country club.

2nd one is a bit tricky. its actually the beach in between saunders and toolakea. Its about 500 meters of beach in between the mouths of bluewater and althaus creeks.

Reason why i had that pic was my mum was looking at buying a place there at one time. There is 13 freehold blocks all quarter acre with power and town water. Access road is from the end of bluewater drive which incidently has big private property signage. The place my mum was looking at was listed in the paper a while back as being lot eighty-something, the esplanade, jalloonda beach. I did some googling and it seems jaloonda might have to be the former name of saunders beach. And i guess the lot numbers continue on from the saunders beach esplanade since they start in the 80's. Here was a better map i had at the time. You can see the blocks are out in the middle of nowhere.

I didn't know that there was a lake at Laverack. Geez you're not safe anymore if you are in the military. All the enemy has to do is bring up Google Earth to work out the layout of your base.

Lol, i was thinking the same thing, they had some big uproar at Google Earth because it had imagery of the Lucas Heights Nuclear Station in Sydney, something to do with ASIO investigations, Terrorism, and National security threats. But though you would think that they would'nt be too happy about Army Bases being clearly shown on the program as well.

Yeh they've dammed the watercourse that I call Macarthur Creek (not sure if it has an official name), which runs through Annandale and empties into Ross River near Bowen Road.

Or just go for a drive up Mount Stuart

I think its official name is Macarthur Creek, but even still, if a terrorist attack were to occur on Lavarack, it probably would've come from Mt Stuart.

Here's another one, it might be very easy, but as long as it keeps this thread going for a while.
