I haven't been by there to look myself. The section they are referring to would be north of the Straz up to Waterworks Park.

Passed by there today while in downtown, all the lighting is up, sidewalks are completed.

They were doing some lawn irrigation and the sod needs to be put in.

I would say it would be early summer as a mostly completed project with may or june as a sort of open to the public for use..

Buckhorn said ribbon cutting within a month or next month (or something like that) in the State of the City. It's not like paving a wide sidewalk and putting up some lights, which is all that segment was (and there was already a smaller sidewalk) is that hard.

Much of the barricades are down along the north section under construction. Looks like they are doing sod prep and putting in a modern style fence between the roadside sidewalk and the lower new Riverwalk. They are using cables which look really cool.

Also noticed these interesting painted glass barriers going up.

Also they are installing Palms today

Last stretch of Tampa's Riverwalk isn't quite open yet (but try telling those using it)

http://www.tampabay.com/news/humanin...-those/2276833

Quote:
"It's the last piece that connects me to downtown," said Nick Diorio, a Busch Gardens resident who rode past construction workers along the unfinished Riverwalk on his mountain bike Tuesday. "You're excited to get off the street and ride a little bit protected from the cars."

This outbreak of recreational anarchy seems likely to continue through to mid-June. That's because of a delay in the completion of the $5 million project that was tentatively slated to be finished last month.

Construction has been hampered by rain and also by a fire at the warehouse of the company building the metal screens that will eventually hold the artwork to be placed under the Laurel Street Bridge, said Brad Baird, the city's public works and utility services administrator.

^Nice pics

This park is going to be so under-used if there isn't some dense mixed-use stuff across the street though.

Tampa gets seven restaurant proposals for Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park
Richard DanielsonRichard Danielson, Times Staff Writer
Tuesday, June 13, 2017 5:00am

TAMPA — A restaurant at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park?

Count us in, say seven bidders who turned in proposals to City Hall by Monday's deadline.

The project would consist of renovating a 2,600-square-foot building overlooking the lawn at the popular downtown park. The prospects include some well-known Tampa names:

• Columbia Food Services

• Four Green Fields

• John Oraha, who said his Curtis Hixon restaurant would be similar to the City Dog Cantina he's had in the Channel District for six years

• Richard Calderoni at El Goya LLC, which operates the Hula Bay Club Waterfront Bar & Grille and Duke's Retired Surfer's Island Bar west of West Shore Boulevard and south of Gandy Boulevard.

• Bill Rain and Mark Newkirk

• Burton Holdings

• Polycreative
Quote:
On Friday, the city also received one proposal in response to a separate request: to put a restaurant on a busy corner next to the Tampa Convention Center.

The proposal came from Ronald Evans of Smuggler's Enterprises for a Harpoon Harry's Crab House.

Burton Holdings is behind the Hall on Franklin and Mark Newkirk is an investment company behind the former Newks Cafe and Station Grill in South Tampa, just to give a little back information on a couple others. Couldn't find anything about Polycreative besides that they are the marketing firm for Oktoberfest, so maybe a German restaurant? Beer Garden would be cool.

Any mixed use across the street wouldn't put a dent in this park....adequate parking for all Tampanians to access will make the difference...this will be a park, like Curtis Hixon has for events, that will bring people from all over wanting to use the type of recreation the park will offer here....

I can't help but think what a wasted opportunity this is. Would have been a great location for new Rays stadium and activated/encouraged redevelopment of the west side much more than the park. Even would with a stadium there would have been room for a park.

I think a stadium in place of JBL Park would be a detractor to the beauty of UT. The park is perfect IMO.
