All development news should always be cross posted I just didn't have time to do it today.

Nor did I. I've been lucky to have time to update URBN lately. It's becoming an issue with my GF.

Basically the new plan isn't a substantial change so it won't have to go before the city council. Also, included are two renderings of the view corridors from Ashley looking toward the river:

South side:

North side:

Both sides look good to me. On the North side while the tower will go almost to the lot line, the ground floor is indented to leave a decently sized pedestrian access between the river and Ashley.

Project has been changed to approved in the thread title.

Looking back, I couldn't find anything about which kind of residential it would have. More typical apartments, average condos, high end condos?

Exclusive: Former Trump site in downtown Tampa sold
Nov 29, 2015, 7:09pm EST

Ashley Gurbal Kritzer
Reporter
Tampa Bay Business Journal

The developer who proposed a 52-story, mixed-use tower on downtown Tampa's former Trump Tower site has closed on the property.

A joint venture of Feldman Equities LLC and Tower Realty Partners paid $12.05 million for the 1.47-acre site at the intersection of South Ashley Drive and Brorein Street and the adjacent CapTrust office building, the partners told the Tampa Bay Business Journal on Sunday.

It is the last remaining undeveloped parcel of waterfront land in downtown Tampa.

Closing on a site brings additional credibility to development plans; it means the developer is moving forward and construction is likely to begin in the coming months. The group said Sunday the tower is slated to break ground in the latter half of 2016 and be completed in 2018.

And this article is a little bit fluffier......

Quote:
We are going to build the best building ever built in Tampa," Feldman said. "We want to contribute an iconic building that will change the skyline of Tampa.
Quote:
When you come out of the elevator, the wow factor of seeing the branding of the company — that is very important to a lot of companies, Feldman said.
Quote:
Residential units, Feldman said, will be in a luxury class of their own given the views. They'll break ground as apartments but could convert to condominium units.
Quote:
As far as retail is concerned we may have the best retail location anywhere in Tampa Bay

Quote:
Until the groundbreaking — slated for late 2016 — Feldman and his partners, along with their architect, Gensler, will be meticulously planning the tower. A "great building," he says, is all about the details.

Now we wait for the renderings and floor plans patiently.

I was under the assumption that they would break ground around 2Q16 as I assumed that most of the site prep had been previously done before TTT was anticipated to go vertical.

Sounds like they're busy designing the tower and finding a residential developer and maybe financing as well. I don't think there's anything physically stopping them from starting sooner.

Sounds like they're hoping to break ground in late 2016, market permitting.

At least we know the architect now. Gensler is pretty top tier:

They're also not cheap.

I'm really hoping to see a unique building design -- we need an architecture-forward design to give the skyline something different than the rectangle look, and something people will notice an want to say, "what is that?"

Impressive that they are moving forward. I wonder if they will use anyone local for the engineering. I worked at a good sized firm that did MEP when I lived in Tampa, but we never got the good "juicy" projects like this. Not sure if we ever had the chance to bid on them even. I know 100 North Tampa and the Bank of America plaza (or whatever its called now) both were designed by the same mechanical engineer. I look forward to following the design and building of this site. It's sat vacant for quite a while.

Those are some VERY substantial claims they are throwing out there, hopefully the end result is close to what their claims are. Their projects, however, lead me to believe that they have a pretty good history and some beautiful designs.

Gensler does some good stuff... Interesting to see them do an east coast job, they usually stick to the Pacific Rim.

I've heard that Feldman wants a distinctive design too...

I kind of expect a mini-Trump Tower Chicago. Modern design, sans the Trump part.

I'm with Buckhorn when he says it will be great to not have to call it the "Trump site" anymore. I personally hope it resembles nothing like a Trump building and is something unique. Somehow I doubt it will be that bold, but I will hold onto hope for something awesome.

Looks like they intend to have things moving sooner than later.

Tampa Bay's new tallest building
Grayson Kamm, WTSP 8:14 a.m. EST December 21, 2015

Crews are doing the first work at the site of what's set to be the new tallest building in all of Tampa Bay.

Riverwalk Tower will be Downtown Tampa's first skyscraper built with office space inside -- not just apartments or condos -- since 1992.

I talked one-on-one with the man who's making it happen on the very last piece of empty land along the Hillsborough River in Downtown Tampa.

The man behind the new building told me it will "activate" a stretch along the Tampa Riverwalk that's more than a football field long as it rises upward to become the centerpiece of Tampa's skyline, standing 52 stories tall.

The construction site on Ashley Drive sits just north of Brorein Street and the Tampa Convention Center, right across the Hillsborough River from the soon-to-be-former location of the Tampa Tribune.

The land is where Trump Tower Tampa was going to be built before that deal fell apart seven years ago.
Quote:
Workers will be out at the site after sunrise Monday, continuing the first testing on the site. Feldman said construction should be going strong less than one year from today.
