Absolutely FANTASTIC City!!! What un-nerves me about those pictures is just the lack of people on the street. I'm guessing you took these yesterday, so it being Sunday might be an excuse but it really isn't an excuse -- any city core should have pedestrians mingling and walking around. Tampa's downtown core is DOA sadly.

I must agree. What happen to the core?. I think we need mnore businesses in the area. renovate the buildings and get some coffee shops and ice cream palors in there and should see some interest in the Core. Also, landscaping sucks in that area.

The coffee shop thing, specifically, I have heard before. For the few that do live in / close to downtown, they complain about no local Starbucks or small Coffee shops in the area.

Even with the eventual completition of Skypoint and the Channelside developments, it may be a while before you see the cityscape transform to cater to the influx in pedestrians.

Youre right, I took these on a sunday about a month ago.I havent been able to post them because Ive had problems with my computer. It was really weird with no people on the streets, and nothing open.I COULDNT BELIEVE THERE WAS NO STARBUCKS! DT St. pete has two,and Tampa is a more well known city and more of a center of business than St. pete. Downtown needs attract people to the office space which is something like 13% vacant but that should be filled up when the condos go up.

Remember, even with the office vacancies being in the teens, the office space square footage is huge to begin with downtown.

If I could own a business right now, it'd be in downtown Tampa. Maybe a coffee shop (not a Starbucks franchise), maybe some other type of cafe... They already have the young people downtown (at the U of T) to begin with. They're building up from there. See the Novare-Intown thread for more on that.

Starbucks is coming in several of the new towers in downtown and channelside. There should be a lot when all are done

Actaully a Starbucks is supposidly oppening up with the Embassy suites in a week or two, and there is a Joffery's in Channelside.

You are completly right.I think DT tampa is the single best investment opportunity out there.Right now, with tampa growing so much, the conditions are ripe to start a business.A coffee shop is a great idea like you said with university students.Tampa has so much office and retail space to offer, you got to get in now before its too late.Tampa has no where to go but up.

Embassy Suites - Channelside - the problem is the connections between the parts of downtown - they need to fill the blanks

I went to the shriners convention last week and walked out of the conv. center and had a good close up of the embassy suites construction...it literally looks looks like you could pass a beer from one window to the next building (using my imagination). It was so frickin close.

I agree. What a difference between Tampa & St Pete's downtown on the weekends.
