This new project, not related to the Related project, is being called HIKU, and has some new renderings:

Impressive!

Since we are discussing multiple Harbour Island projects in this thread, would everyone here support renaming this thread to "Harbour Island Developments" or something to that degree? Or would it be better to have each of these projects housed in their own threads?

I vote for change it since we are talking about two new buildings instead of the Plaza.

I wonder if Intown can have the Straz tower and this one going up at the same time.

I really like it! Any chance it starts construction by the end of the year?

Their website still states it will start construction summer of 2014. So we shall see, but I'd guess early to late fall it actually gets going.

Weren't they just out there taking test bores recently? If that was this parcel, then they'll likely start in 60-90 days, if everything else is in line.

I really like the open space similar to the Straz, its a great design feature for sure and allows that open view through the building.

Yeah, according to 40 floors, they were drilling on the 24th of June. Crossing my fingers that it starts soon.

Per Bob McDonaugh, he believes they are proceding.

If you could walk around on that property, maybe you can see that they have done drilling or maybe they cover it up when they're done. Idunno.

Latest article about the two apartment projects replacing the 2nd and 3rd towers of Lindell's old Plaza project...

Two apartment towers in the works on Harbour Island

Richard Danielson, Times Staff Writer
Friday, July 25, 2014 6:40pm

Quote:
TAMPA — Two 21-story apartment towers are in the works for Harbour Island, with construction on each targeted to start by the end of this year.

Two different groups are developing the towers, which would flank the 20-story Plaza Harbour Island condominium on Knights Run Avenue.

On the west side of the Plaza, the Related Group from Miami is working on plans for a tower with 340 apartments.

The units would include studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, with an average rent of about $2,400 a month, said Arturo Peņa, the Related Group's vice president and development manager.

The building itself would have a Parisian look, Peņa said, with "a very elegant porte-cochere entry," mansard roofs and arched windows. Related has arranged for tenants to park in the garage at the neighboring Two Harbour Place building and to use a new skywalk to move between the tower and the garage.

The Related Group is no stranger to Tampa. Less than a year ago, it opened the Pierhouse at Channelside, a four-story, four-building complex with 356 apartments at 120 S Meridian Ave.

On the east side of the Plaza, another partnership between three well-known Tampa developers — Robert Moreyra of Forge Capital Partners, Greg Minder of the Intown Group and Phillip Smith of the Framework Group — is working on plans for a second high-rise.

It would have 235 to 240 apartments, most of them two-bedroom units and two-bedrooms with dens, plus parking spread out on the first seven levels of the building, Minder said.

Naturally, the usual suspects are up to their usual shit... Sounds like the larger Related project will get built regardless, the only question is whether they get a sky bridge for residents or not. Fine with me either way in this location.

Quote:
Grandoff said his clients at The Plaza want the Related Group's plans to better address the project's impact on traffic.

On July 17, Grandoff asked the council to reconsider its vote to okay the sky bridge, but two council members were absent, so the council carried the matter over to its meeting this Thursday. He contends the city never legally acquired the easement to begin with, so it cannot release it to the developer for the sky bridge. Those rights, he said, belong to his clients.

At the Related Group, Peņa said the long-standing DRI and zoning approval means the project is legally entitled to develop the apartments it plans, and the city attorney has approved its agreement for residents to use the spaces in the parking garage.

"The question is whether there's a sky bridge or not," he said.

So today turned out to be the day for high rise updates.
What's the big deal with the skybridge? The people in the plaza won't even have a view of it plus people using it would be off the street. Whine whine whine.

Here we go with a legal battle as expected. Now they are bitching about not only increased traffic, but the "parking situation" of the Related Tower.

http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/re...k-legal-battle

This kind of shit could set this back several months to a year. Maybe the tower could be changed to put all parking in the base of the building and it could be taller.

Wouldn't be least surprised if they have a legal battle with the other proposed tower next.
