I don't see that getting far. They can't stop the developer based on "traffic" concerns, and the developer has already stated that they'll proceed without the bridge if they must.

I never realized there was that amount of parking in the office building. Was Related just being cheap so they wouldn't have to incorporate parking into the tower?

Yeah Density these people are *******s (as always). Wait until Channelside gets under way and possibly a baseball stadium (things that are not even on the island). Maybe if the Martin gets the Publix, then the people in the Martin and Grand Central could ban HI residents from the Publix because it causes too much traffic on Kennedy/Twiggs/Madison.

Another article. Times did a two-in-one so skip the Ybor part.

http://www.tampabay.com/news/localgo...tments/2190840

They say they "do not oppose the tower" but they are still pulling the "increased traffic" case. How can you not oppose a residential tower but then oppose increased traffic since everybody living in these two new towers will have a car? Complete contradiction!

and this quote is also very true...
"Generally, when people don't want a real estate project, they want to delay it as much as they can because time kills all deals," McDonaugh said.

there's always traffic where ever you go. I don't understand why these people make it such a big deal. you live in a city for crying out loud, expect increase traffic time to time.

Not only that, but THEY decided to live in a location that is on an island, has only two ways to enter and leave, and forces them to drive through downtown. Can't the developers argue that they are building on land that was designated for development before these residents moved in?

Noticed three guys on the HIKU property with equipment. Appeared to be soil testing. Good indication that this is going forward. As for the Related tower, looks like nothing yet.

here's the response I received from the developer of HIKU.......

"Thanks for your inquiry. We should be starting construction on HIKU within 60 days. What you saw was some additional soil testing.
The riverwalk project timing is independent of the City’s infrastructure improvements, which are set to begin early next year."

Can you post what you asked him? Context would help with knowing what he meant by that.

Sorry but it's gone. I've deleted the deleted.

He was very helpful to me so maybe you could ask the same
questions or more. I told him I would put it on SSC.

It just seems almost like the guy you're quoting is talking about an entirely different project elsewhere in downtown. HIKU is nowhere near the riverwalk, so what does he care? I was just wondering what you may have written that compelled him to mention that.

From my work, I'm aware that there are large projects in the works that will upgrade both the potable water supply into downtown (which has been mentioned in the Lane Park discussion), as well as the wastewater capacity leaving it (with the wastewater upgrades specifically being on the southern end of DT. I mentioned that a couple of months ago). I wonder if there's some link with HIKU's water/sewer connection needing to wait until capacity is upgraded?

I had a patio party yesterday and I was shit-faced when I wrote this. Sorry about that. I think what I asked was gone because I sent the email from their website instead of mine. When he replied, it only had what he said, not what I asked. I just realized I put something in the Vinik office and parking garage proposal. Thank God I didn't go crazy there. LOL.

It sounds like you asked about the Straz project in the email as well...

Riverwalk project = Straz tower
City’s infrastructure improvements = Cass/Tyler redesign
