What the developer had proposed was the best solution possible IMO.

He was going to make the tower more slender, which would have left plenty of room for lush landscaping and a nice fountain wall. More importantly, the tower would have had public parking AND public restroom facilities, hidden in the base of the building.

How could it get better than that? I was completely stunned when that was rejected. It's actually one of a number of decisions that came down the pike in recent years that has soured me so much on Tampa. Cities populated with people who can actually think things through don't do stuff that stupid. They still make plenty of mistakes, we all do, but they don't screw up no-brainer stuff.

Now watch when it's built... The same incompetent morons who opposed a building which includes public parking, will now complain that there's no parking.
Let's not forget the lawsuit the developer filed AND won! They were paid by the uhm..CITY (aka taxpayers) so these nimbi's could get their way, short term (pun intended). In the end, the developer made out on all of our backs thanks to a few and still got to build and profit from their tower. There should be some kind of rule where if the city takes on a fight over a neighborhood and loses, the costs to the city (taxpayers) go back to the party starting the fight... just IMO!

Looks like they will be closing the lot and fencing it in tomorrow.

This video shows alternative parking spots but funny it doesn't mention the tower.

They have the area fenced off and a sign is posted on the tower. There was a recent article in the paper quoting Toni Everett saying sales where going well enough and they expected to break ground by years end, I believe.

Piece of equipment left on the site today. Really can't tell if anything has been done yet. I thought the best way to view it is from Bay to Bay or go behind it on Ysabella.

And the view sucks there. You look at the fake hill behind the pond.

aquatica tower

The Aquatica Tower on Bay to Bay and Bayshore is showing 12 pending sales. This might get built although I am not a fan of the design.

I see ads in the real estate section of the Trib still. The project is still active just having trouble selling I guess.

Gee I wonder why people don't want to pay top dollar for a condo in a squatty, ugly tower with awkward floor plans?

Drove by the site today. Some sitework going on, stakes are laid out and dirt is being pushed around.

If I'm down there tomorrow, I'll take a look to see any continued work. I've mentioned before that I'm not a fan of a glass tower that would clash there. I think maybe it would look better on Rocky Point.

I don't mind the look of it. I would just be irked if I was a buyer by the lack of balcony.
