forgot to add this...

http://tbo.com/news/business/channel...ix-b82501319z1

Can't see how the people of Harbor Island could be opposed to a Publix with plenty of parking at this location. It would be way too convenient for them to just zip up Meridian and back. Actually, HI residents may shop there as much or more than the people of Channelside. I see it as a win location for Publix but the article does say they haven't said anything so it's still a mystery which retail would go in there.

This is rendering of the park, Grand Central's Facebook posted this morning. They didn't give a link or source, but at the bottom you can see it's from Mercury Advisors.

I like it. Especially in an area that is full of 25-35 years old and active, having basketball and volleyball courts will be beneficial to not just the residents but also members of Powerhouse Gym.

The city still needs to a park that is full of shade.

Nice addition to the area....but does that small of a park really need a dog park? I have a dog, and it is nice to have a green area to go....but another dog park in the core of the city when there is another dog park in the park a couple blocks south? IMO the area would be better served as just more open shaded spaces for everyone. One can still take dogs to the park of course, they just have to stay on leash...

The dog park already exists in the area and is membership-only. This article states that Mercury Advisor (people behind Grand Central and future The Martin) donated land to the city for this park. Best bet is that the dog park was included, so the dog park will likely be free once everything is completed.

Interesting, did not know that. Thanks!

It will be built behind Grand Central right next to the proposed site of the Martin.

I can't believe it is almost December, and not a hint that this project is going to go vertical anytime, soon... I was looking back at old newspaper articles to see if I could find any indication of when they were intending on starting this project. One of the articles said the following:

Working with Urban Studio Architects and Hardin Construction, Stoltenberg and Bombeeck plan to break ground on the Martin within the next four months, constructing an environmentally friendly 24-story apartment complex with seven stories of parking and two stories of retail. The project will mimic Grand Central's modern Art Deco-esque design.

This article was written on March 5, 2013 -- link: http://www.83degreesmedia.com/featur...nel030513.aspx

It's been close to nine months since that article... I wonder if this project is still a go.

I can't see this not going up. They have had too much success with Grand Central to not go forward on the Martin. Maybe we're looking at a Early 2014 start date now.

The delay probably has something to do with the grocery store

Either the park adjacent to the building or the grocery store. Buckhorn and the city I know want a grocer in Channelside now and believe this project has the best potential to get on in to Channelside.

An honest update by the developer would be nice.

Just got an update from DPR construction....

"They said they are working on revisions right now and hope to start construction in Q1 of 2014. They may have precise updates toward the end of Jan. They don't expect any change to the height or number of units."

I did not ask anything about retail. He didn't say anthing more about the "revisions".

My wild guess is the revisions are about either tweaking the foundation, customizing the retail base to suit a tenant, or making sure the units are conversion friendly (to condos... but I imagine they already did that?)
