Freudenberg to invest Rs 130 cr in its Mysore cement project

The family-owned German company, Freudenberg Group, is investing around Rs 130 crore in its existing project in Mysore, making it the company’s largest investment in the Asia-Pacific region.

The product development laboratories in Mysore will become a regional competence centre for specialty lubricants, release agents and maintenance products. The centre will serve Freudenberg’s customers in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim as well as some global needs as a technical centre of excellence.

Its companies, Chem-Trend and Klüber Lubrication India, are building the group’s most modern facilities. Since its launch in 2011, first buildings have been erected. By 2016, when the project is scheduled for completion, this state-of-the-art facility will provide 17,000 m2 of covered space. Total area is around 40,000 sq m. An additional plot of land covering over 8,000 sq m has been acquired.

Specialty lubricants, release agents and maintenance products being manufactured in the Freudenberg Company Klüber Lubrication plant operating here since 1989. Its brands of Klüber Lubrication, Chem-Trend and OKS presently have various applications in different industries such as infrastructure, automotive, energy and food industry.

The plant employs some 110 employees. It is expected to add over 100 people. Positions in production, quality management, logistics, and product development will be filled by chemical and mechanical engineers, managers and other skilled professionals.

“This investment reiterates the importance of the Indian market for Freudenberg Group,” said Jörg Matthias Großmann, Freudenberg Group Regional Representative for India and Chief Financial Officer for Freudenberg Chemical Specialities, in Mysore.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “For years, Mysore had been one of the key manufacturing locations for Freudenberg, a family-owned German company. It is assuming an important role in Freudenberg’s innovation strategy. The existing infrastructure, mild climate, qualified partners and skilled workforce make Mysore a logical choice for future expansion.”

Freudenberg has held business ties with customers and partners in India for almost 100 years. The group has a workforce of over 3,000 at 28 locations. It generated Rs 956 crore sales during fiscal 2011.

A joint venture, Freudenberg Gala Household Products, opened a plant for production of mechanical household cleaning products in Adas, near Anand, Gujarat investing around Rs 20 crore. Freudenberg Filtration Technologies India in Pune acquired the specialty filter manufacturer Pyramid Filters in April 2012.

By the end of the month, EagleBurgmann, a manufacturer of sealing technology, will complete another important project, a new Rs 10 crore R&D laboratory in Pune, Großmann said.

“The Freudenberg Group will continue to grow its activities in India both through internal growth and through strategic acquisitions,” he emphasised.

Vicat to invest Rs.1,300 crore at Gulbarga cement plant

Hyderabad : Vicat Group, an international cement manufacturer, will build a second unit at its greenfield cement plant in Gulbarga district of Karnataka with an investment of Rs.1,300 crore.

The second unit, with a capacity of 2.75 million tonnes per annum, will come up in two to three years, said Gilles du Manoir, country head-India, Vicat Group.

The plant at Chatrasala Village commenced production a few days ago when the first line with a capacity of 2.75 million tonnes per annum became operational.

A joint venture between Vicat Group, France, and Sagar Cements, the plant will ultimately have a capacity of 8.25 million tonnes per annum. The second phase of the project, with two more units, is expected to be completed in three to four years.

Announcing the launch of its Bharathi brand cement in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh here Wednesday, he told reporters that the company invested Rs.1,800 crore in the first line with a debt equity ratio of 35:65.

With the commencement of Gulbarga plant, Vicat Group's capacity in India has gone up to 7.75 million tonnes per annum.

It already has a joint venture with Bharathi Cement, in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh with five million tonnes capacity which has been in operation since 2009.

The cement from the Gulbarga plant will be used for domestic consumption, the focus markets being north Andhra Pradesh, north Karnataka and Maharashtra.

M. Ravinder Reddy, head marketing-India, Vicat Group, said the Kadapa plant was running at 50 percent capacity due to electricity shortage.

The Gulbarga plant will operate at 60 percent capacity in the first year. Vicat Group has a sales target of 4.5 million tonnes from both the plants during 2013.

Manoir evaded queries relating to its plans for further acquisitions in India and about the likely impact from the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) into Bharathi Cements owned by YSR Congress party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who is in jail in an illegal assets case.

He said Vicat's investment decisions were clean. The French company in 2010 acquired 51 percent stake in Bharathi Cements. It earlier joined hands with Hyderabad-based Sagar Cement for 53 percent stake in joint venture.

Vicat, which had revenues of 2,265 million Euros in 2011, operates in France, Switzerland, Italy, the US, Turkey, Egypt, Senegal, Mali, Kazakhstan and India.

(DCBL) (BSE Code: 533309 | NSE Symbol: DALMIABHA) has further strengthened the brand in the southern region of India by launching its latest offering Dalmia Ultra. Karnataka cement plant wage disputes develop

Written by Global Cement staff
Friday 20 December 2013
India: The Deputy Labour Commissioner of the Union government has convened a tripartite meeting with representatives from Vasavadatta Cements and UltraTech Cement, the Shramajeevigala Vedike and the Labour Department to find a solution to the on-going wage disputes at Karnataka cement plants.

Mr. Hiremath, trade union leader and president of the Shramajeevigala Vedike, claimed that the cement companies were spreading falsehoods about the implementation of wage board salaries to contract labourers. They continued to pay a negligible US$2.89/day against the cement wage board's recommendation to pay more than US$8.03/day. The companies also provided false information to the Labour Commissioner that the cement wage board's recommendations were being implemented and hid the fact that contract labourers were not receiving any other benefits.

Mr. Hiremath said that if the Labour Department failed to ensure that the cement plants implemented the wage board's recommendations, the employees would not have any alternative but to launch an indefinite protest in New Delhi.

Dalmia Cement buying up fertile land: Farmers

BELGAUM: Hundreds of farmers from Yadawad village in Gokak taluk, under the aegis of Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha and Hasiru Sene, staged a dharna on the premises of the DC office here on Tuesday, opposing the limestone mining project of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited. To mark the protest, farmers cooked food and had lunch at the protest venue.

The memorandum claims that in 2010, the government had given permission to the company to buy 497 acres in Yadawad village to set up the plant, through Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB). But later, the government extended this permission to 1,598 acres and KIADB is acquiring the land. So far, KIADB has acquired 1,086 acres in the area.

Farmers allege that apart from the government sanctioned land, the company is illegally purchasing land from farmers directly and most of such purchased lands are fertile agricultural lands. They have demanded that the purchase of excess land by the company be stopped immediately.

The memorandum also says that according to the Land Reforms Act, companies must utilize the land for the stipulated purpose within two years of purchase. But except building some commercial buildings, Dalmia company has not done anything so far. Farmers cautioned of further protests if more land is acquired by KIADB for the company.

In Mangalore
MCF has CPP: run from disposed oil from ships coming to NMPT,
MRPL too has their own CPP
I am not sure even of KIOCL, But I guess they have one too seeing chimneys..

JSW Cement seeking statutory nod for second plant in Karnataka

Pankaj Kulkarni

JSW Cement, a part of the JSW Group, is in the process of seeking statutory approvals to undertake exploratory drilling at a limestone deposit in Gulbarga district in Karnataka.

It will be the first step taking forward the company’s proposal for setting up a three million tonne clinkerisation plant in Chittapur in the northern district of the State, JSW Cement Director Pankaj Kulkarni said here on Tuesday.

Investment
At current estimates, the plant would entail an investment of Rs.2,000-2,500 crore, he replied to a query from presspersons. JSW Cement has three facilities, which together add to a capacity of six million tonnes portland slag cement (PSC). They are at Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh; Vijayanagar in Bellary, Karnataka; and Dolvi in Maharashtra.

The drilling would establish limestone reserve in the area. Thereafter, the land acquisition is to be initiated. “It will take two to three years to start the project,” he said, adding that three MT clinker would help make six million tonne PSC. The clinker is to be converted into PSC at the grinding units near the consumption centres.
The proposed facility is one of the components of JSW’s plan to increase the cement capacity to 25 million tonne by 2025.

JSW Cement is betting big on PSC, particularly on the back of the Centre’s emphasis on infrastructure development. The company is also in the process tying up with large consumers such as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. In order to create awareness of the benefits of PSC, the company, over the next few months, intends to educate the users.

JSW Cement to hike capacity fourfold, foray into RMC

JSW Cement Ltd, a part of the $11-billion JSW Group, is all set to enter the ready mix concrete (RMC) business and further boost its capacity by starting clinkerising units in three more cities with total investments of around Rs 5,000 crore over a period of five years.

In an interaction with Deccan Herald, JSW Cement Ltd Director and CEO Anil Kumar Pillai said that the investments would help the company increase production capacity to 25 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) from the current 6 mtpa.

“As part of the plan, we are investing Rs 3,000 crore at Chittapur in Gulbarga and Rs 600 crore to set up a grinding facility near Nandyal. The additional investment of Rs 900 crore will be for starting clinkerisation units and Rs 250 crore for RMC units,” he said.

“We think it will be the right moment to enter the business as it will bring in more revenues to our existing business model. We have started a RMC unit at Kurnool which validate the prospects for this business as we do not want to commit to a segment where existing players have set benchmarks,” he said.

Besides the space constraints in cities and shorter deadlines for builders, the construction industry is facing massive labour shortages and increasingly looking at mechanisation. This, coupled with the fast growth of the infrastructure sector and largescale construction, is pushing builders towards the RMC segment.

According to Pillai, JSW Cement will become only a Portland slag cement manufacturing company by the end of next year. “We want to build our brand with environment-friendly products. Slag cement can play a major role here, and our company will take a lead in this segment,” he said.

About the future growth trajectory for the company, he said the goal is to be known as an engineering company instead of a commodity product company. “As part of this initiative, we are actively looking into entering the precast concrete block segment and other related products in due course of time,” he said. Pillai said the company is ready to push for inorganic growth if it finds appropriate target companies.

Talking on the new government’s initiatives, he said cement companies are seeing more momentum for the economy. “The new government is placing more thrust on infrastructure projects and we find opportunities in it. Actually, our capacity utilisation last year was below optimum levels as demand was not there,” he said.
