Wow, the ancient times... hahaha

I am just a wee baby, really, so I can only imagine what life in Metro Vancouver was like then, particularly before the construction of the Pacific Centre and Metrotown.

SFU under construction, image from a March 1966 issue of The Peak.

Old issues of The Peak, by the way, are pretty wild. They had a whole lot of bitterness towards UBC and traditional university ideals in general. Apparently, SFU was one of the first handful of North American universities and the first Canadian one to adopt the trimester system.

Every time I see how narrow/small the Lion's Gate Bridge is (when compared say to the government built Golden Gate Bridge for example) I get incensed. Why on earth did the city of Vancouver allow a private developer (with apparently limited funds) the right to build such a small bridge to the North Shore? The government (city/provincial/federal) should have at least partnered with the private sector to build a decent six lane structure!

agreed, the Lion Gate should have been built with 6 lanes, its a total shortsighted city planning imo.

Yeap, I've probably spent a tenth of my life stuck on that Lions Gate gridlock.

That is a question people were asking years ago; it was incredibly short sighted planning.

Either I'm losing my mind or this pic is flipped. Or maybe both.
