Nigeria, others lead Africa’s hotel construction pipeline figures for Q3 2011

According a release by Lodging Econometrics, Africa’s total hotel construction pipeline figures of 190 projects and 37,141 guestrooms has been trending upward incrementally for three consecutive quarters and is up 7 per cent by projects and 10 per cent by rooms from the first quarter of 2010. Morocco (11,955 guestrooms), Nigeria (3,937) and South Africa (2,492) account for half of the region’s total pipeline.

The recent escalations in political and civil unrest in Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, and recently in Morocco could dampen development activity in Northern Africa in the future.

However, the release noted that the rapid recessionary declines in Europe’s hotel construction pipeline have abated, even as the pipeline is in a lower bottoming channel for a fifth consecutive quarter and will likely remain there until the sovereign debt crisis eases, national economies show more vigorous recovery, improvement in hotel operations accelerates and construction financing becomes more available.

According to the latest issue of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) World Tourism Barometer, growth was positive in all regions with the exception of the Middle East and North Africa due to what it described as emerging challenges. Some sub-regions achieved double-digit growth: South America (+17 per cent), South Asia (+14 per cent), and Southeast Asia (+10 per cent), with Europe leading overall growth rate for the period.

Red Carnation eyes Nigeria with best of hospitality marketing

Quote:
Recently, the Red Carnation Hotel group was on a tour of Nigeria to discover for itself the huge tourism and hospitality potential of the country.

The hotel chain with 13 outstanding luxury hotels in London, Dorset and Guernsey in the UK, South Africa, Geneva, Switzerland, and Palm Beach, Florida, USA, came to Nigeria to prospect for business, especially for its South African outlets as Nigeria contributes a huge percentage of South African’s tourists arrival in recent times.

Of course, Sally Gray, general manager, Red Carnation Hotel Collection, South Africa, did not fail to give prospective Nigerian guests reasons to lodge in any of the three hotels of the international chain in South Africa.

From The Oyster Box in Umhlanga Rocks, Durban, Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve in Western Cape to The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in Cape Town all in South Africa, Gray notes that each of these hotels is distinguished by an absolute commitment to attentive service and the comfort of every guest.

Among the reasons, according to her, is the competitive pricing, the accessibility of the locations, offering of similar palates from visitor’s country, parade of world-class hospitality facilities and the very personalised services that are rare on the continent’s hospitality offering.

“Our Nigerian guests will always be genuinely welcomed as friends, and they are coming to experience our hotels as their ‘home away from home’ and leaving with warm and happy memories,” according to her.

On the other hand, Khanyisile Mcunu, sales executive, The Oyster Box, explains further that the Nigerian business and leisure travellers are welcomed as the hotel chain has on offer in everyone of its outlets, best of hospitality and business facilities that enable guests achieve whatever purpose they have for their visits. From the furnishing, cuisines, services to the beverage, there is always something African and by extension, Nigerian on offer, explains Mcunu.

“As a customer, you will appreciate the quality of service we provide, and the environment in which we deliver it, is central to our objectives. But our concerns go beyond this, and below we have set out a brief summary of what they are and how, without compromising the quality you receive, we make these concerns count, ” Mcunu states.

Taking his time to invite Nigerians over to his country and to Red Carnation Hotel Collections in the Rainbow country, Wayne Coetzer, general manager, The Oyster Box, Durban, says all the three hotels are adventure of fun and offer value for money.

The Oyster Box, according to him, is one of South Africa’s best loved and most distinguished, luxury seaside hotels, while a visit to The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa is one on a discovery of the magic of Cape Town and the charm of the 70-room luxury hotel that combines ocean and mountain with breathtaking views in every direction.

However, Bushmans Kloof is a place of ancient and untamed beauty, unlike any other. Coetzer notes that the extraordinary haven nestled at the foothills of the Cederberg Mountains just 270 kilometres from Cape Town, is the ideal wilderness getaway to escape, restore and relax. As the Cape Town International Jazz Festival kicks off this month, The Twelve Apostles welcomes you to South Africa’s cultural landscape with a cup of wine to cool off at its reception.
