Statues
a great letter in the SMH on what to do with MSB tower. A giant kim il sung style statue atop the pillar of Paul keating gazing benignly across Bangas towards Packers pillbox.
i thought to myself that we should let more statues rise above us of great men. let Gough be cast in bronze and hold court in Liverpool. let Neville remind us from a plinth overlooking the harbour how balmain boys dont cry. let Jeff stand proud in the Glenferrie Rd carpark. let Kingaroy peanut silos be dwarfed by a replica of Joh in local granite but let PJK be the greatest of these. |

The Bruce Lee Statue at Kogarah was a gift to the locals from a Chinese sister city. Some locals didn't want it to go up.

I love statues. Especially bronze. So timeless.

The best statue in the whole wide world I ever saw is in Lexington, Kentucky USA. The horses are all famous thoroughbreds that are placed at full gallop to a finish line. They are full size yet appear to be gliding in air ! Some even have their entire bulk supported by the point of one hoof ! Beside the horses is a fountain of jets climbing higher to the finish line like the roar of a crowd as a race reaches it's climax........The detail of the Jockey uniforms with whips and leather straps is amazing. I can't remember seeing any statue let alone a field of statues more alive !
