Georgia Dome can’t open for Super Bowl telecast

I read it on Curbed Atlanta, but they site the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

What the Georgia Dome could have looked like!

This 'POPULOUS' 110 page PDF released in June 29, 2010 shows everything of what could've had happened to the 'Georgia Dome' if it was approved. Instead we will now have 'Mercedes-Benz Stadium'.

Looks like lipstick on a pig. I think it's safe to say they made the right decision to build MBS. Go big or don't go at. They would've been unsatisfied with that "renovation" by the end of the decade.

That renovation job would have definitely been a sight but as others have said im glad we have MBS. its state of the art in its own. the renovated dome would have just been dome 1.5. The best existing renovation i can think of is the one in Miami. there are no others that impress me. San Fran need to do something though to shade those fans.

That "renovation" looks dated and tacky. It looks like it was designed by the producers of "Sleeper"........with the intent to host nothing but Duran Duran concerts.

I was not in favor of spending the money on a new stadium, but I am glad they chose to build something of lasting worth.

That renovation provided much needed shade for the fans, but to be honest, there isn't much innovative design involved. The roof was pinched from several European football stadiums. At ground level around the structure, it lacks cohesiveness.

It was a relatively cheap solution. Not much more can be said about it.

Oh? You must mean the 'Santa Clara 49'ers' - San Fran don't have a NFL team anymore! Same thing goes with the 'Arlington Cowboys' & the Jersey 'Giants & Jets' LOL

I understand what you are saying but in all honesty. Simple is better in some cases. I also meant to say I like what Jax did even though they still cant put butts in seats it was a good move forward in fan friendly environments. Hard Rock stadium back when it was Joe Robbie/ Pro player/ Sun life/ Land shark i cant keep up was a pit and had WAYYYY too many orange seats because they were empty. I haven't checked attendance for this year but the renovation job made it more ascetically pleasing for fans . so it made them feel like a new stadium without actually 1 waiting for one and 2 relocating to one.

Regrettably, thanks to some wrangling with the US Post Office and other entities leading up to the '96 Olympics, the Braves will have the chance to say they still have an Atlanta address. Corporations like IBM and AT&T that had offices in the Smyrna area arranged to have postal codes changed for marketing purposes. It's bogus and I still won't be supportive of the team under the current ownership, but they're not completely out of "Atlanta."

Well just outside the perimeter. In my mind yea they are not in atlanta anymore but in all actuality the perimiter is a good judge of the city limits for me to a certain extent. It hurts to see em go but the season looms and they have moved. Que sera sera (I am sure i spelled that wrong)

For the record I'm not supporting the Braves move to Cobb just pointing out that the Bay Area 49ers would be a better name.

Pairs of seats from the dome are now on sale for anyone with a decent bulge in their wallet. One pair will run you only $600. Plus free shipping!

I thought Lambeau was one of the best until they added that eyesore a few years ago.
