No skyscrapers planned, but plenty of interesting mid-rise projects. Notably:

http://www.thewatergardens.co.uk/ - still under construction

http://www.chambers-wharf.co.uk/ - finally a planning application for this crucial site

http://www.canadawater-southwark.co.uk/ - regeneration project around Canada Water - to include a distinctive new library by Piers Gough, a revamp of the mall (no info yet at http://www.surreyquaysshoppingcentre.co.uk/redevelopment.html), new restaurants, cafes, residential buildings

http://www.bermondseyspa.co.uk/site/bs_home.html - big regeneration project, mostly now in early stages of construction

Transport-wise, the East London Line (stops at Rotherhithe and Canada Water) shuts at the end of this year, to reopen two and a half years later with extensions north and south, new trains, and a rebrand as London Overground (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/networkandservices/2105.aspx)

And there's a feasibility study underway for a cycling and pedestrian bridge to link Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf (http://www.sustrans.org.uk/default.asp?sID=1093338220720), which would be very welcome as the Rotherhithe Tunnel is no fun if you're not in a car.

Ah cool thanks - my mistake was searching for 'Elmsgrove Point' rather than just 'Elmsgrove'.

When I initially saw the tower I presumed it was a reclad of an old social housing block, but if it was then it would have been the best reclad ever done.

Seemed a rather odd place to build a new build tower, but I guess it's got good transport links so makes sense from that perspective.

To judge by a planning application for new signage etc (ref. 14/AP/2633), unit 1 in Montreal House may finally be occupied - by real estate agents KFH, who presumably will simply relocate their branch from the Surrey Quays mall.

These two restaurant units are crying out for restaurants or cafés, and the success of the Canada Water Café across the road demonstrates the demand. Still, something is better than nothing. It's the unit that was previously the Barratt Homes marketing suite, so it's not much of a stretch to turn it into a real estate office.

That's a crying shame. No animation for the square. This used to constantly happen on the Isle of Dogs when I lived there, you'd wait ages for a new shop or cafe, a bit of new life and then an estate agent would open, adding no vibrancy whatsoever!

I once had a friend who lived on Wapping Wall and could count 13 estate agents in a row along there! 13! That entire row had been planned for retail, leading up to the prospect of Whitby but became a dead zone!

Could it be because London rents are so high that it prevents independents from opening up and giving things a go?
the rents are massive... and if your business, and others like you in the same area become a success they'll be increased.

my local train station currently has an empty retail unit. there was a cafe that moved in there, they signed up for six months... started to make money... then the train company simply hiked the rent so the occupier quickly went out of business. it's been empty for six months, occupied for six months, and empty before that for four years.

The café across the road is an independent venture and is doing well. These Montreal House units are expensive, so I wasn't expecting a start-up, I was expecting a branch of Café Rouge or Pizza Express or Carluccios or Strata or whatever. The demand is obvious and it's a great location... still, as I say, better KFH than an empty shop, and there's one more unit to go.

I've belatedly caught up with what's coming to the second of the Montreal House restaurant units. Spotted a a reference in the minutes of the June meeting of the Canada Water Forum to "the Happy Valley Restaurant".

http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgAi.aspx?ID=31248
"Happy Valley will be a Chinese restaurant based over two floors. It is intended that the basement will have a bar and two karaoke booths, which would be able to hold a maximum of twelve persons in each."

Well, it's certainly good news that it's to be a restaurant, which is what the site needs. As for the particular type of restaurant, I like both Chinese food and karaoke (and have a few favourite places in Chinatown in Soho), and there may be a particularly strong demand for both in SE16 where many flat sales have been to SE Asia.

But no banana from me, because the truth is that a Chinese restaurant is unlikely to make the most of the great potential for outdoor seating, as say an Italian place or a brasserie would have done. Now I'm doubly disappointed that the neighbouring unit is to be a real estate office rather than a restaurant.

^^iliveinse16.com has a little more info on this:

http://iliveinse16.com/planning-update/

The long awaited arrival of contractors on the Decathlon and What! Store site has now happened. MadiganGill have constructed a temporary two-storey self-contained office block on the carpark of the What! Store due to be completed by 17 November 2014. This is the accommodation for the telesales and HQ staff of Decathlon UK who will move into it from the first of their two stores – the one nearest Albion Channel – up to Christmas. At the same time, Decathlon UK have applied to extend their second store into their own carpark alongside Canada Water. This extension will allow the transfer of their whole retail business from the first to the second buildings during the early part of 2015, leaving the building empty. By March 2015, Sellars – the developer for the whole site – expect to be able to start the demolition of the first Decathlon shop. Oh and the whole development is now dubbed Project Light!
