ABU DHABI [MENL] -- The U.S. Navy plans to return the dependents of military personnel to Bahrain.
Vice Adm. David Nichols, the outgoing commander of the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, said dependents of military personnel would return to Bahrain by 2006. Nichols cited an improvement in the security situation in the Gulf Arab kingdom.
"I believe things are relatively safe here in Bahrain and the Bahraini government has made progress in the last two years," Nichols said. "Bahrain is the permanent base for U.S. Fifth Fleet and U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, and we are committed in the long term to this country."
In July 2004, the Defense Department ordered the departure of dependents and non-essential personnel from the Gulf Cooperation Council state amid threats of an Al Qaida strike. About 1,000 dependents as well as non-essential Pentagon personnel were brought to a military base in the United States.
Ya read this. They will be happy, plus those returning families will even be happier. They were sooooo mad when they left, they wore shirts that had somethin like "refugees in our own country". They just love it in Bahrain. I don't blame them, they have a great lifestyle and am not sure they do much compared to what they get paid (I think double salaries if am not wrong) hehe.

See the American presence in Bahrain has been there for over 100 years. They didn't just choose Bahrain. First it was the missionaries who came, then the American Mission Hospital was formed and a church (still there) and then things somehow developed and they decided (for many reasons) to have their base there. I can only imagine what will happen if Bahrain said no, a lot of things can take place.
dont get me wrong - love bahrain. Im just using bahrain as an example here
But i mean the power the US has over Bahrain, I dont like. 4th largest naval base and all - used for iraq invasion. even though the majority of the country opposes the war, the US has a big base there that can be used for deployment and such. i really hate that, and would wish the country would oppose it.
Ya but man, Bahrain can't stand in the US's way, it'll damage the country big time, especially economically. I mean, no FTA, and for example look at Saudi, they're bein bulleyed by the US and now after major difficulties, they can join the WTO.
I really hate it when they have these stupied cases were all americans in the country are evacuted only for them to realize it was stupied in the first place. I think they do that just so that they can report in the news that they are working hard and doing their best to protect american civilains abroad in case real sh!t goes down.
As for a base in bahrain, so what, qatar has a huge a$$ airforce base for american military to use. Im not proud of it but its a necessary evil !! If we lived in a neighbourhood where ur neighbours were civil and friendly then we won't need the americans, unfortuantly we live in the bad part of town and the best way about is to guard ur fenece 24/7 and to put a big-a$$ sign on the door that says "BEWARD OF THE DOG" hence, beware we've got american bases here so plz mess with some one else.
Lets not forget, Germany and Japan have american bases.

No real power over the US...Just like many other countries..After all we are one of the smallest countries in the world...But of course we still wouldn't accept anything...So no, Bahrain doesn't take everything up its as_, as u soo nicely put it...
Oh well, the bases bring in money (i hope?) and maybe all the israeli victories over arabs have done some harm on arab psyche and their insecurities over themselves!
