Europa House, Portsmouth

At 64m, 18 Storeys this is the tallest non-residential building (exc. Spinnaker) in Portsmouth. Completed in 1969 it served as the European HQ for PALL Corporation (A fortune 1000 company) till they moved into new offices in the Suburbs.

The tower is formed of two parts. The main 12 storey office tower standing above a 6 storey carpark. The building is earmarked for conversion to Hotel use with height increase.

The view from The Hard.

Hotel Proposals.

Now overshadowed by taller buildings on the Harbour Skyline.

Aye, the Carpark is depressing. I took photos from it once and it is one of the few places in Portsmouth I didn't feel comfortable with my camera out. The view must be pretty decent though. This and Zurich House are the first 'tall' office buildings I ever saw, growing up in Portsmouth (visiting family in Wolves was a highlight, driving past Brum ) but Zurich House is in a completely different league. Nothing overly special but still attractive, Europa is - as you say - boring though.

I am hoping the reclad will turn out well, afteral Travel Lodge gave us that abomination in Leicester. Done right, it has potential to look like a half decent addition to the city.
