If ppl can remember, DMK government planned for Coimbatore model TIDEL 1 million sq.ft IT space for Madurai also.

Later on, we ended up having a 50,000 sq.ft marriage hall. They stated that if this space gets filled up, we will think of having TIDEL model.

I do not have any update on who is going to occupy the second floor, it could be true also.

But, we may not see the government reviving the TIDEL model since we used to get only healthy snacks like 'soodaana halwa and vadai' from successive governments.

Hi Madurakarenda,

you said one of the company target head count of 1000. For 1000 people itself, 1 floor might be needed..is it not?? Btw, i like the location of Ilanthaikulam IT park as it is very close to MIBT. Madurai corporation can think of few city buses from IT park to various places like towards Tirumangalam, Thiruppalai, kochadai via MIBT in morning and evening times

Hi, they were operating at 450 - 500 till few months back, now they have hired the rest and filled the first floor space.

They company's manager told me that they are going to occupy the left over (almost half) space of first floor.

But, as far as I knew, they had no plans of occupying the second floor.

And regarding bus service, the company itself operates Swaraj Mazda for all its employees to parts in Madurai city.

Power, Transmission projects to get a push during Modi-Sirisena meet

.
.
On Power Grid’s transmission project, 300 km of overhead line has been proposed between Anuradhapura in Lanka and Madurai. There will also be a marine link of 1,700 km. A Power Grid official said: “Technical and financial issues are being discussed with CEB. Besides, there are religious places at the connecting centres and the local community needs to be taken on board. Two high voltage, direct current terminal stations are to be set up at the two ends of the link, connected to Sri Lanka's national power grid.”

HCL to set shop in Madurai ELCOT

Shiv Nadar owned HCL will soon be setting shop at the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) IT Park in Vadapalanji, Madurai.

The allotment was made long back and HCL has just given the confirmation.

“HCL has confirmed that it will take 60 acres of land in the Vadapalanji IT Park,” said a senior official at ELCOT Chennai who did not want to be quoted. “We got the confirmation last week,” he added.

The proposed investment on this venture at the temple city could not be ascertained. HCL could not be reached for comments.

Another official with the ELCOT, Madurai, said, “The development is still in its initial stages and there are host of procedures before work can begin.” Spread over 239.58 acres, the IT park, which is located near the Madurai Kamaraj University, got its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) notification in April 2008.

Meanwhile, the IT Park at Ilandhaikulam, which resumed operations in 2014, will be fully functional by this April. The park was kept under lock as there were no takers. It was inaugurated in 2011.

Till the time the company announces and starts the work, we shouldnt believe this. Our state govt will come up with all sort of stories specially since they plan to have investor conference in madras in May.

More overseas patients choose Madurai hospitals

Quote:
MADURAI: In terms of medical expertise, the city has much less to offer compared to Chennai and Coimbatore, but there are signs that the demand is slowly picking up.

Madurai is yet to occupy a firm position in the medical tourism map of the country, although the eye care facilities available here have attracted attention due to the presence of Aravind Eye Hospital. City doctors, however, say that the medical facilities and treatment available here are being viewed in a favourable light even by foreigners. When 66-year-old Annie Neunschwender, a French national, fell at a temple tank in Kumbakonam in Thanjavur and broke her left limb, she chose Madurai for treatment at Easvara hospital.

The interlocking nailing technique, which she underwent, was not exactly rare, but wasn't very easy either. Most foreigners in her situation would choose Chennai hospitals or return to their nation to get complicated procedures performed. "She could have chosen Chennai since Madurai and Chennai are almost at the same distance away from the place where the incident took place. She chose Madurai after consulting her insurance people in France. It gives recognition to the doctors and the quality of treatment available here," said Dr G M Bharathkumar of Easvara hospital. Commenting on the procedure, the doctor said her age was the key challenge. "At her age, bones would be very fragile and we had to be cautious. Since she does not know English, we had to appoint a translator. A special chef had to be roped in to prepare food. Several such foreigners have started recognising Madurai," he said. Annie, who was accompanied by her husband, was discharged 15 days ago, a week after she was admitted.

Cheered by the good care she received, Annie has left a testimony here, thanking the doctors and people in the city who helped her. Dr K Senthil, president of Tamil Nadu government doctors association, said treatment in Chennai was far superior, and Madurai could not be compared to Chennai. Nevertheless, the treatment here is good and it has being recognised of late.

We always only have unnamed officials in TN. there is absolutely no transparency and ownership or responsibility. No wonder no one wants to come.

Let the govt find another location for the project as there is a case filed against currrent location (situated in a tank bed). Tallakulam area is already hopelessly congested and now the city has grown so better to find alternate location in non-congested area.

I think lot of land would be available in ring road between airport and anuppanadi. Ring road can be widedned till 6 lanes and govt should consider shifting lot of govt projects to that road around the city.

This project will never take off. Late MGR announced this project alongwith Tamil University project more than 30 years ago at the time of World Tamil Conference at madurai. So many times plan was changed, file was dumped in Fort St George before taking off now. Looks like it is a jinxed one.

After JJ came to power, she shifted the location to madurai medical college play ground from Thoppur. So they called for new tender. I think work has already started.

Central govt wants to set up a massive AIIMS type hospital in TN and asked for few suitable places. TN govt has shortlisted 5 places and sent the list. Madurai is one among the five. But in all probability it will come up near madras because TN govt would want everything at madras

Rs.451 cr. sanctioned to improve facilities at Govt. medical colleges

The State and Central Governments have sanctioned Rs. 451.60 crore to four Government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu to address deficiencies pointed out by the Medical Council of India (MCI). A team from council had visited the colleges during January to assess their proposals for addition of MBBS seats.

The total capacity addition proposed in these four colleges is 345. The Central Government will contribute Rs. 289.80 crore with the State Government pitching in the rest.

Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan has directed the Directorate of Medical Education to submit proposals for addressing the shortcomings pointed out by the Council. An Empowered Committee of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had met in New Delhi recently and approved the State Government proposal for capacity addition in the four colleges.

Following this, a team of assessors from the MCI inspected the colleges and pointed out shortcomings in teaching faculty and infrastructure such as buildings, equipment and staff. The funds now sanctioned would be used to address the issues raised by MCI.

The four colleges are the Government Kanyakumari Medical College, which had sought an increase in seats from 100 to 150 seats, Coimbatore Medical College (from 150 to 250 seats), Government Tirunelveli Medical College (from 150 to 250 seats) and Madurai Medical College (from 155 to 250 seats). Two hundred and fifty is the maximum number of MBBS seats for a Government medical college in India.

The Coimbatore Medical College will receive Rs. 120 crore to take up development and expansion works. Hospital officials said that the works include establishment of a multi-disciplinary central research laboratory and an examination hall spanning 2,000 sq.mts. besides expansion of the central library and the hostel. A staff quarters would also be constructed.

Sources said that with the plans already having been approved, construction would be taken up by the Public Works Department (Medical Wing) soon.

The Coimbatore Medical College officials said that they were confident of getting the additional seats by for the academic year 2016-17.

While the Government Kanyakumari Medical College has been allotted Rs. 91.60 crore, the government medical colleges at Tiruneveli and Madurai have been allotted Rs. 120 crore each.
