Absolutely, he seems not interested in Kollam's medical college. He knows to inaugrate and allot medical colleges for other places.

Infact, people should not give any face value to his words which he blabber for the last 2 years. He has already done everything for 2nd medical college in TVM when it is just 5 Kms away from the other medical college.

Northern districts, especially Kannur, have got sufficient numbers of ***holes with us. We do not know what to do with them. They are so busy slitting each others throats, they do not have any time to spare for us. So please import some from the southern districts. Does not matter whether they come by air- by-passing Kollam.

Kollam gets Rs. 20.3-crore project for slum clearance

RAY pilot scheme at SMP Palace colony

The pilot scheme of the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) in the State will be implemented in Kollam city. The technical sanction for this was obtained on Tuesday. The Centrally sponsored scheme aims at creating slum-free cities. The pilot project will be implemented at the SMP Palace slum colony.

Mayor Prasanna Earnest told press persons on Thursday that it will be a Rs. 20.30 crore project. Fifty per cent of the amount will be funded by the Centre, 30 per cent by the State government and the remaining 20 per cent equally shared by the Kollam City Corporation and the beneficiaries. One hundred and ninety-five families at the pilot scheme colony will be benefitted. Two room kitchen apartments in eight-storey blocks will be constructed. Under the second phase 25 slums in Kollam city will be covered by RAY. Ms. Earnest said that Rs.500 crore will be obtained as grant from the Centre.

Meeting planned

A meeting between the stakeholders and consultant of the scheme will be held at 3 p.m. on October 10 at the Municipal Council hall, she said.

While the Pullikada slum colony had the top priority of the Corporation to implement the scheme, the property where the slum stands is still under the ownership of the Railways. RAY stipulates that the scheme will be implemented only on land owned by city Corporations.

In August 2011, Kollam became the first city in the State to complete the basic formalities to implement the RAY scheme. In 2013, the detailed project report was prepared by the Centre of Science and Technology for Rural Development (Costford) and on May 13, the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee gave the green signal for the scheme.

Kollam Kaushal Kendra will be inaugurated on November 1

KANNUR: Calling for Labour Minister Shibu Baby John has said that along with the strides made in the field of education, unemployment is also increasing in the state and this is a major problem.

Inaugurating the District Employability Centre, opened under the aegis of the District Employment Exchange here on Thursday, he also said the Employment Exchanges should be made relevant according to the requirements of the changing time.

"The employment exchanges were opened following the vacuum in the employment front following the World War II, and now there should be a change in the seven-decade old policy in that respect," said the minister, adding that when the educated people wander jobless there should be new policies.

We should shed our false pride in exploring new avenues of employment, said the minister pointing out that in Germany there is a university that offers course in butchery.

He also said the Kausal Kendras, which are being opened to utilize the potential of the rural employment schemes, will be inaugurated in the state on November 1. The first one will be in Kollam and the next will be in Azhikkode.

The employability centres, operated with the support of a Bangalore-based human resources company, will help mould the young candidates according to the professional requirements and also provide them counseling, and trainings to improve their language and communication skills, apart from developing their personality.

A P Abdullakutty, MLA presided over the function.

There is a possibility that All Season's going for an expansion to get the Five Star status. The bar ban possibility may prompt the 4-star hotels to think about enhancement to get the 5-star status to get excemption related to bar ban.

All Season's by its standards have all basic requirements for a 5 star status. But I am not sure on the number of rooms available there. Both Quilon Beach Hotel and RAVIZ have around 100 rooms (infact 96 for Quilon Beach Hotel).
