The big grey box at the top of the building is an unfortunate necessity. It's not completely a mechanical box, but one that houses the window/building cleaning equipment that folds up inside of it. Because the building footprint is small, there just isn't anywhere to "hide" it.

But could they not have used the same green glass, that is used on the tower, so it wouldn't stand out so much? New towers going up are finding much nicer ways to cover their HVAC and mechanical units. Trump could have done much better. (even if they painted the box green, or anything besides grey, it would have looked better) That grey box just looks too awkward and prominent, which is NOT a good combination.

So it's perfect for a building with trump's name on it then

When I look at that tower, I think the design is cool in general, but again Trump really should have built the 300m tower with the original/ taller design...

It's a decent building and a positive addition. It's nowhere near as exciting as the hype was prior to construction. It really did need to be it's full height for the design to work properly though.

Don't you really mean that the developer didn't want to go that extra mile to conceal it? Perhaps I'm not aware of building codes regarding mechanical, but couldn't it be 'camouflaged' to look like an extension of the building?
