Ginseng, you are so right about those facades giving different shades of "color" depending on what angle you see them from. Another reason why I wish these could be printed out on some sort of reflective paper. They're making a lot of types of printable surfaces so hopefully it will not be long. No worry on the timing of these. Just knowing they are coming is inspiration enough! (And we all know they will be worth waiting for...quality wise!) Cheers!

I should've been more specific. I meant the dimensions of the base at 1:1500 scale, not the scale itself.

I should've realized that Key Tower base is slightly bigger than regular Houston block with adjacent streets so it wouldn't fit that easily in denser areas of the model city, but it shouldn't be problem with the likes of 600 Travis.

Model of Downtown, Houston

Okay my friends. I have been working on this model for about 2 years now, and I thought it would be worth sharing. This is all made entirely from card stock (110 lb. 199 g/m2) paper, except for the greenery. I wanted to make a simple model just to show the buildings and their locations. No detail and/or color. There are still a couple of sections that need to be done, and I'm still working on them. I used Google Maps, both street level and aerial views in order to see the various angles and aspects of the buildings. If you look closely, I have the Capitol Tower (which has already been designed and ready to build) on the block east of Pennzoil Place and south of Chase Tower. The construction process on this building has been halted until tenants can be found for it. I have enjoyed working on this model from the very beginning, and I hope to get the entire area completed this year. I hope you like it!

lol No need to be envious, LAbuilder! I learned this from getting instructions when I was 12 years old from my uncle. He was making a model of his house, and showed me how to do it. Once I figured it out, I was making houses on my block, then moved on to buildings. It takes practice, good eyes for detail and much patience, so I know you could do it! Give it a try! Just get a perspective from each side of a structure, the top view as well, and construct it! Start off simple, then you will be surprised how much more knowledge will fall into place. Good luck!

Wedge International Tower, Houston

More Houston. My enthusiasm grows with every finished building. Can't wait for the day when I can put all the major towers together

I also put together some diagrams. These models are in various stages of development, RRI Energy Plaza will probably be the next.

..and 2 Houston Center. This will be one of my most complex models so far and that's saying something, considering the tower itself is basically just a box

Amazing work you are doing for us Houstonian's, ginseng! The Wedge is beautiful, and those all-glass facade buildings are going to be flipping brilliant! Keep them coming, but....in your own time, of course!

Thanks friends

There's still more. After a long break I've started working on Allen Center again, but then I noticed it's undergoing major renovation. Thankfully it seems to be affecting mainly the parts I haven't drawn yet. So I did some provosional adjustments based on renders, newest Google Street View and my own guesses. As I said the result is only temporary until I can see how the finished thing actually looks like.

Love all the new models and diagrams

I know you're really busy right now, but when you're done with all these Houston models could you look into making Duke Energy Center in Charlotte?

Will be awesome to add the Allen Center structures to our Houston models! Love the DoubleTree Hotel! When French music composer, Jean-Michel Jarre did his laser and light show here in Houston in 1986, his stage was set up right in front of DoubleTree Hotel. You can see the videos on YouTube. Very good work, ginseng.

I know this sounds dumb but I was wondering what type of adhesive is best for these models?

The most used one is the classic bar of glue, but if you use a very thick kind of paper I would reccomend white glue, applied with a brush. Anyway, my advice is to use bar glue

Yeah, something like that. I generally use glue stick for large surfaces and white glue for smaller ones. Some glue sticks are more suitable than others though, it's better to try out different brands - shouldn't be too greasy or weak. I personaly use Pritt (the smallest version)

That's interesting, I'll look for these videos. I really like this kind of old school electronic music, though I prefer German acts like Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze.

I think I'll slow down with Houston soon, it's too much to do in one go anyway.
Believe it or not, Duke Energy Center is something I tried years ago, even before BoACC. I abandoned it back then because I couldn't make the slanting part work. I'm sure I can do better now
Other than that it looked good, you can see for yourself
