So Ford's going to have a lineup like this?

Fiesta - Ecoboost
Focus - Kuga
Mondeo - Ford Edge (replace territory)
Taurus - Next Ford Explorer?

Ranger Ute - Ranger SUV

New Mustang

For a start, back when the factory was being tooled up for the then all new BA Falcon, Ford decided against configuring the line for left hand drive production, meaning that the Falcon and Territory could only be exported to New Zealand, unlike Holden who have exported Commodores to places like the Middle East and the US, and Toyota I believe also has a large export program.

Then, more recently, when sales of large sedans started to go off a cliff, Ford for a moment looked like they'd make the smart idea of building the Focus locally. But at the 11th hour that plan was shelved, and their whole plan became about putting a 4 cylinder engine in the Falcon. A good plan for the Falcon in isolation, but that alone wasn't enough. Once again, Holden made a good move by building the smaller Cruze model here. Toyota's Camry is already a mid-size vehicle, which would have helped their sales hold up compared to those of the Commodore and Falcon.

I'm not surprised to see this happen to Ford, the writing was on the wall. I just hope that it doesn't take down Holden and Toyota as a result.
General Motors invested too much money into the Zeta platform to let the commodore fail. As it stands that was a poor investment and one that probably won't be made again. Toyota is different kettle of fish as they make the same cars everywhere, Ford are doing a similar thing but why make the same cars in Australia when they can be made cheaper elsewhere?

Ford have made the right commercial decision and i hope they can maintain high levels on R&D in Australia as the hub for South East Asia. It sounds like these employee's will be busy with some new projects.

Another thing Ford should do is take complete control of service and sales of their cars.

Most likely, I doubt we'd get the Ford Explorer more likely the Ford Everest (the explorer was probably the only one I liked in the replacement line up) the rest of the line up is just FWD rubbish especially the Taurus (Falcon replacement) we may also see the Ford Fusion which is based on the same platform as the Taurus (FWD junk).

Aren't the new mustangs meant to come out with some ecoboost
