Really? That's a shame. Still, maybe the building will get used for what it was originally for. Commercial use. Hopefully the ground floor can be turned into a restaurant though, so the square gets used for more than a car park.

Award for Liverpool One campaign
29th Apr 2013 at 08:39am

Retail and leisure complex Liverpool One has won an award for a media campaign it ran.

The recognition was in the inaugural 'Opal Awards', run by trade body the British Council of Shopping Centres, which celebrate excellence in commercialisation.

Liverpool One's award in the media category was for a campaign to support an exhibition called 'Bodies Revealed' which ran for four months in 2012.

A special bio-chalk was used to form a trail around Liverpool One aimed at driving visitors to the exhibition.

Everyone who took a photograph of the street advertising to the box office received a discount on the entry price of the exhibition.

The campaign ran for three weeks during November and December and brought an additional 2,600 visitors to Bodies Revealed.

Judges called it a "striking, simple and effective" campaign which was sustainable and interactive.

Liverpool ONE hosts free music events on both May Bank Holidays

Visitors to Liverpool ONE will be spoilt for choice over both May Bank Holidays when the retail destination hosts free musical performances on Chavasse Park.

From 4-6 May Liverpool ONE will showcase a line-up of artists fresh from appearing at the landmark annual music festival and conference, Sound City.

Highlights of Sound City at Liverpool ONE include MOBO award winning R&B star Esco Williams, rapper and singer/songwriter KOF and The Tea Street Band who have just returned from supporting iconic Manchester rock band The Inspiral Carpets.

Also performing during the three-day music event will be local acts such as Silent Sleep, The Shadow Theatre and Johnny Sands as well as unconventional performances from acts such as 10-piece ukulele band, The Splintered Ukes.

As well as the musical performances, the legendary John Peel World Cup will take place on 4 May on Chavasse Park, bringing together the best of Liverpool Sound City - music and football.

From 26-27 May, Chavasse Park will come alive with the sound of orchestral music with Proms in the Park.

Forming part of the city-wide commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic, Proms in the Park features performances from bands and orchestras from across the North West.

Talented musicians from Sefton, St Helens and Wirral will play music for every taste. From the Harry Potter theme tune to instrumentals from hit musical Les Miserables there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Donna Howitt, Marketing Director at Liverpool ONE said: “Both Bank Holiday weekends at Liverpool ONE are not to be missed. From traditional proms music to contemporary artists our music events are for music lovers of all ages and tastes. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy performances from some of the most talented musicians in the region for free in the heart of the city.”

Going by the council planning website 'Subway' are to open on Hanover Street in Unit 125. This unit has been empty since Liverpool one was completed, so even though it lacks a little imagination, it's better than being empty I guess.

I went into the Subway in Bootle and a camp chap asked me what I would like. I said without thinking 'Can I have a six incher with meatballs?'. He gave me a fruity look and said 'Right away sir!'.

Liverpool One has Bank Holiday boost
13 May 2013 | By Victoria Gallagher

The May Day bank holiday helped footfall at Liverpool One soar, translating into a sales boost throughout the three days.

Footfall was up 5.7% compared to the same period last year, while sales were also up by 6%.

Retailers at the Liverpool centre reported strong sales of spring clothing and footwear.

In the first quarter of the year the centre has seen sales and footfall increase by 5.4% and 4.4% respectively.

Miles Dunnett, head of asset management at the Grosvenor Liverpool Fund, said: “Our open streets, which connect with the rest of the city centre, allowed visitors to shop and enjoy the sunshine, rather than having to choose one over the other. Consequently, everyone benefitted, from visitors to retailers to restaurateurs.”

I think it could be the unit next to BBC Radio Merseyside!

Great news about the footfall over the May Day bank holiday, Liverpool ONE seems to get more and more popular every year! Not just footfall either, excellent news about the sales being up even in these tough times!

Interested that brands appear in the ad and that it's mainstream ones that appear, rather than it being the liver birds chatting in Peters Lane with Harvey Nicks in the background.

Shopping centre Liverpool One is today launching a £2.5m TV advertising campaign in a bid to drive footfall.

The campaign, which stars ‘the Liver Birds’, will be aired for the first time at 8.28pm on ITV Granada.

The 18ft birds, which stands on top of the Liver Building, have inspired the campaign and have been brought to life and transformed into two girls talking about their love of shopping.

Chris Brown, head of marketing at Liverpool Vision, said: “The campaign is a striking one that will drive footfall not only to Liverpool One, but also the wider city region. Liverpool One has become an integral part of the city since its launch, and has transformed the retail offer of the city.

“This campaign does a great job of communicating the vibrancy of Liverpool One and the city as a whole and I’m sure it will be very popular both locally and beyond.”

Sales across Liverpool One were up 5% last year compared with 2011. The rise has continued in 2013 with a 5.4% increase in the first quarter.

If the footfall and money spent have risen every year in the midst of a terrible recession the people who are in charge of this place must be now planning to expand the site in the short to medium term and make L1 an international mecca for shoppers second to none
