Just that the way to access it from MRT station is still inconvenient.

Think about it. You can drive all the way to Puchong, pay toll, sit and order minimum 2 dim sum with water. It will still cost less than sitting in tim ho wan and order 2 of their overpriced dim sum.

Cheapest michelin-starred restaurant, 2014???

Do you see Tim Ho Wan open in Guangzhou? A city with over 30 million people? They could have easily open a hundred shops there but no why?

It's the birth place of dum sum somemore. And any household can make better and nicer dim sum than THW

Same like here. Those local restaurants make nicer and cheaper dim sums than THW

Where the heck all the skyscrapercity rats? this thread need to be lit up again. 1Utama is undergoing extension work on the east side of the old wing. No information about it anywhere and their facebook page has zero announcement about it. Not to forget the lagging pedestrian access between MRT to KPMG-First Avenue-1Utama.

And the owner have the balls to say because Malaysia is a Muslim country Tim Ho wan failed.Yeah put the blame on others.Did they forgot that their Sydney branches also closed down??The owner should realise that the reason why Tim Ho Wan is a success in NY because Chinese population especially Cantonese is still relatively low in the diversity pool in NY.Huge demand and less competitor of course businees will be good

Reason why it failed in Malaysia and Australia because left and right you turn you'll see a chinese food restaurant.Competition is very strict here. Why would someone pay more money for something they could cheaper, tastier and better somewhere else?

Agree with you. if because Malaysia is a Muslim country then why Tin Tai Fong, Ippudo ramen and others non halal restaurant so succees here? I've tried once Tim Ho Wan at Hong Kong, one michelin star, nothing special, super regret to spent so much time on there, better try other dim sum restaurant.

If you ever notice, 1U management does not announce/broadcast their extension works to the public. It is mainly done quietly with a "Sorry for the inconvenience caused" posting on their FB. No renders, artist impression etc.

As for dim sum food, you can get a plate of 3 pieces of your favorite dim sum (siew mai) for RM5.50; if you go to the market, half a dozen will cost you RM6.00 (some cheaper) and they taste pretty good.

Really? I believe there is a reason why it wasn't built at the same time, internal or external reasons. Such big project is not overseen by the 1U mall management, but by it's parent company See Hoy Chan Holdings, which includes very senior management people from 1U, First College, One World Hotel and other related group of companies, as well as the 3 main Dato' (one of them is now a Tan Sri).

I highly doubt that they were "blind" to not know such important details. I can only guess that its either internal or external issues that prevented them from building the linkway to open simultaneously with the MRT.

I suspect it's something to do with tenancy agreements...

The place where the MRT linkway building is being built was home to a couple of tenants in the LG floor, including that big herbs shop... Maybe the demand from the tenant for early-termination compensation was too high, which is why 1U management would rather wait until the agreement expired, before the tenant moved out and only then, construction work could start!

Still, one small part of the linkway is now close to completion - the section with the short bridge connecting to the KPMG Tower and where MyNews.com is located (just after the currently permanently-opened turnstiles)... Which means people can start to walk to 1U from the MRT, even if they have to pass through KPMG and One World Hotel in the process...

Yeah, that was my initial thoughts as well.
If you have visited 1U recently, you can see that area is now being closed for construction works. There used to be a few tenants at the area. Tenants being tenant, they will definitely demand high compensation for early-termination.

I thought this MRT project has been on paper almost a decade ago, how could the management have not foreseen this coming and respond accordingly?

Watch our timelapse video of the construction of "1 Utama E" - a Sports & Entertainment tourism destination and new extension to the mall, which includes more retail, lifestyle and F&B outlets coming your way real soon and direct link to the Bandar Utama MRT station.

With the 1st phase to be launched in December, you will get to check out two very cool sports centres with technology imported from Australia and United States:
👉 AirRider (Indoor Skydiving)
👉 Flowrider 1 Utama (Surf Centre)

I would like to know too. I recalled it's a park and ride facility but surely it can't be a parking building alone right?
