Exploring Downtown Greenville, SC 2016

I was down in Greenville, SC last Sunday and was able to spend a couple of hours downtown (first time I was down there in many years) which is experiencing a development boom as many on this forum are very much aware of. Here is a slice of some of the action I saw while I was downtown which was bustling to say the least (about 100 photos in three parts)...

Wow. Great photos. Greenville looks a lot more interesting than I thought it was o.O. I may have to take a day trip there to see what it's about sometime this summer.

Definitely. Be sure to check out the Falls Park on the Reedy, West End, and the Swamp Rabbit Trail!

Greenville looks awesome. I love the way they have developed on both sides of the river/park. Ironically Greenville is the one thriving southern small city downtown that I have never been to and its probably the closest to where I live.

Wow, thumbs up on this thread, even if it did nearly crash my computer!

Greenville looks like an incredibly vibrant, charming city. Those street trees that they've been able to keep so healthy and tall make all of the difference. Most cities' street trees in downtown seem to stay fairly scrawny.

Love all of the use of native stone in the parks and incorporated into some of the new developments too.

Thanks for sharing.

Indeed, Greenville is a mere 90 mins away from me, as well, and is a great little city. I enjoy doing the Swamp Rabbit Trail and visiting the eateries downtown. A classic example of a community making the most of their assets and seeking a charming, urbane core. From the sounds of it all their work is paying off, as well. Not only are new businesses coming in and thriving but the community is scoring well in various health indicators, suggesting the improved character of the city is endearing people to be more involved and physically active. Good for them!

Very reminiscent of Chattanooga's efforts, if in decidedly different forms.

The South has so many of these beautiful "hidden" gems...we have just dozens of smaller cities that people often overlook as backwaters or not worth their time - many of them within just 3-4 hours of Greenville. We are lucky to have these beautiful nearby cities for weekend getaways: Greenville, Asheville, Chattanooga, Augusta, Knoxville, Winston-Salem, Durham, Columbia, Huntsville, and many others are worth a visit.

Lots of great cities on that list! Been to all except Huntsville!

I like the scale of the city. Not very big but seems like you can walk around easily. Also like the contrast of the river and city.

I remember in 2008 Gman was always asking that Charlotte "quit hogging it all" but after looking at this, I don't think we hogged it. I think Greenville is absolutely killing it, and nobody would ever imagine it was a city of 58,000 people.
