Much like how the Pound is dragged up by The City and is far too strong for most of the North & South West of England/Scotland/Wales/NI.

Burberry have obviously been considering this since they bought the site but it's still going to be a massive investment for them. So I'm not surprised they are being so cautious,

I was talking to a senior manager at theCastleford factory and he says Leeds factory still planned to go ahead subject to timing and Brexit negotiations

Is the view that probably it will still go ahead but on a reduced scale?

Where do we think these 300 office staff will be Going? Wellington place, or purpose built on the site they own. Maybe a partial refurb of temple works.

IMO there are two ways of looking at this piece of news from Burberry; one is that it is a sweetener, or softener as they may later be saying 'No' to the Leeds Holbeck project, which they know everybody wants to see happen, obviously. Or, it could hopefully be step one of a stepped process in line with the latter actually going ahead and Leeds becoming an important location for the firm.

Isn't Christopher Bailey a Leeds lad?

Does anyone know if Burberry directly or indirectly own much of the site in Holbeck? I was looking into the history of Burberry and they used to be part of Great Universal Stores (latterly Reality) which owned the Temple Mill and adjacent buildings. I'm not sure if a successor company or someone completely separate owns the sites now, but just thought it was an interesting coincidence that Burberry chose this site for the factory.

Try contacting Susan Williamson.

It was Phil Kirby who did our SSC Leeds tour of Temple Works a few years back

Is this the site directly on the line of HS2? So a cynical attempt to boost any compensation when the land is acquired for the route?

Yes it is. I am surprised the journo has missed that, as it should be an entirely different tone to the article.

It's quite telling that the massing has had minimal/no thought put into it.

I picked this up a couple of months ago on the Official Leeds Thread:

Interesting comments regarding it being an alternative development should there be delays etc to HS2, but this struck me as attempt to boost values before a compulsory purchase. McAleer and Rushe suggested developing here about ten years ago, but did nothing about it, so seems a strange time to resurrect.
Blatant attempt to boost value after ten years of sitting on this eyesore.
