Miami looks more and more like Chicago each year! Dallas compares well with cities like Minneapolis and Seattle. Since tall office towers have been abolished by the Wall Street bean counters in favor of low-rise suburban office parks, residential is where the action is and Miami is well up into Chicago territory with their resys. Maybe Dallas will start competing more with Austin on downtown residential talls.

Living vertically like the Jetsons is the wave of the future. Miami has so much more planned with developer interest so strong, there is no telling what the skyline could like look at the end of this decade. I love all my southern skylines. I've followed them for a long time. And now something is happening in Miami that I never dreamed possible. The city is transforming at a rapid rate.

Yes, be nice! I can be pretty funny sometimes. I really hadn't planned to post any Miami pictures here, but RaiderATO opened up, and so he got a picture. Anyway, living in the sky among the clouds has always been a futuristic concept, and yet so many people want to bash Miami for it's very tall condos. I plan to live in one some day.

Didn't bash anything. Just said I didn't see it as comparable to Dallas. I might have subconsciously insinuated that I didn't care for it (the decks break up the vertical lines I like).

I didn't say you bashed anything, and you said more than this. No matter. The forum's moderator said let's talk, more skylines, so here:

Actually for Dallas to compare to Seattle and Minneapolis, it needs to have a super vibrant downtown with tons of residential, shopping streets, warehouse districts, and street markets. Last time I was in Dallas (2008) it was much deader than I could have imagined. Some beautiful buildings and beautiful plazas and tons of weathy people (in that sense like Seattle and Minneapolis), but little in the way of vibrancy, culture, and historic character.

I can see a comparison between Miami and Chicago, but I can also see a comparison between Atlanta and Chicago. Miami is ahead of Atlanta in terms of residential development, but Atlanta is so far ahead of everywhere else in the SE, and both have a similar layout as Chicago. Miami is a little like Chicago flipped vertically (downtown is north and Brickell is south with elevated rails in each). Atlanta does not have water, but there is a very slowly developing "Midtown Mile" and Midtown and Downtown are separated by a very wide highway. Also the condos stretch and curve north for miles like they do in Chicago. Miami has very tall residential towers as does Chicago, and while Atlanta has a few very tall ones, it has a high concentration of "mixed use" towers like Chicago.

No city in the SE is as vibrant as Seattle, which really does compete with Chicago in terms of street activity.

I like that first shot of Tampa. It's an view you don't normally see. And the shot of Orlando is brilliant! One or two skyscrapers and Orlando will totally rock!

Pleasently surprise by Nashville, deserves merit as a solid choice for 2nd or 3rd best secondary tier skyline in the south(1. Charlotte. 2-4. NOLA, Nashville or Austin in debatable order. 4. Tampa?) Probably the only city I'll go back to Flickr for and post more pics on this thread.

Quite possiblly Music City's most photogenic skyline vantage point, so I posted the most unique of the bunch that had the bridge intersecting the frame, but so many great pics of this viewimage hosted on flickr

Dallas has came along way from what it was 10yrs ago and even 3 yrs ago there are about 30,000+ who live in the CBD and is expected to double in 20 yrs. I do agree about the lack of amenities in downtown but that will soon change as a number of retail, museums, clubs are in store for Dallas.
