Alabama's oldest city, love the old architecture from the early 1800s, the Gulf Coast south. Also love the Live Oaks.

A classic old southern city with southern urbanity. A rarity in the south. I can't wait to get down there and explore those charming streets. A shame this city isn't known too much. It has so much potential for tourism on the level seen with Savannah and Charleston. Thank you, we need more Mobile in these forums.

Thanks for the comments guys. Most of the pics were from the De Tonti, Chruch Street, and Fort Conde districts. Most of the buildings are italinate, federal , and creole. Next I'll try to to cover more Greek and Spanish
revival buildings as well as other districts.

I have a lot of friends from Mobile who go to school up here in Starkville. I've driven through many times but never stopped

Thanks for the pics. Mobile is a very charming city with even greater potential. Do you have any pictures with people, say something of their social and civic centers?

Also, is the port handicapped in any way by the depth of the water? I know Savannah is gearing up to dredge the river again to accommodate the new super-tankers that will flow through the expanded Panama Canal. Will Mobile need to do the same?

There is always a festival or even downtown and i`m almost never available to snap it. I`m off on crappy days like a Sunday, LOL and that's when I can take them...I will be posting more pics soon with social and civic centers.

And yes the port is preparing for the Panama expansion .

Great architecture. Some of the buildings looks really good. Good pictures too. But after recently visiting Mobile I have to say that I've never seen a city of that size to be so lifeless. The buildings was good looking, as previously stated, but they seemed to be empty inside as there was no people around at all. Not much in terms of stores or restaurants either.

Perhaps because Bienville and Iberville left Mobile to found New Orleans!
