Hello and welcome to the 5th installment of the Econ-Development-Projects-News-Pictures Thread.

Some things to think about:

1. If you have nothing constructive to say don’t say anything at all.
2. If you are offended don’t stoop to the offender’s level and engage in a pointless debate.
3. Stay out of Political Debates the truth is that the person on the other side will not change his/her mind just because you tell them.
4. Don’t insult a person’s ethnicity or religious practices.
5. If you wish to be respected remember that respect is earned not given.

Lideri tržišta kapitala u BiH u Banjoj Luci

Quote:

Obje manifestacije trajaće do 14. maja, a cijena ulaznice iznosi jednu KM.

Remarks by Principal Deputy HR Larry Butler On the Occasion of the Fourth Assembly of the BiH Bankers’ Association

Quote:
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It’s a pleasure to be here, particularly because the recent performance of your industry justifies optimism about the prospects for the BiH economy as a whole – on two counts

* the first is that the strong business growth you are experiencing reflects the positive trajectory of the broader economy, and
* the second is that your current success gives you the means to keep that trajectory positive.

A buoyant banking sector is both a function of and a prerequisite of economic growth.

We have seen the value of deposits held in BiH banks rise from 6.9 billion KM in 2004 to 8.8 billion KM last year. That represents a remarkable 27.5 percent increase.

Over the same period the value of loans rose from 5.5 billion KM to just over 7 billion KM – indicating that popular confidence in the banking system and in the banks themselves has increased markedly. In this respect I believe the BiH banking sector is ahead of some those of the neighbouring countries.

Recently in the media I have been obliged to draw attention to what I believe is a worrying trend among political leaders. It seems to me that some politicians have calculated that the crisis facing BiH has passed. The economy is growing, negotiations with the European Union are underway, public finances are stronger now that VAT is operating smoothly. But the improvements we are seeing are still modest – and we have to make it clear to decision-makers that this is absolutely not the time to play fast and loose with progress that has already been made in taking BiH towards a better European future, whatever the temptations to do so may be as we move into the election campaign.

As all of you know – and as I hope the general public is now being made aware – the necessary arrangements have been made to establish a modern European-standard banking supervision system in BiH, under the aegis of the Central Bank.

This will further protect depositors, and, by increasing banking security and maintaining the buoyancy of lending, will help to encourage investment and create jobs. Establishing a BiH banking supervision system is also an SAA requirement.

It is a Good Thing – and the people of BiH must not be deprived of that Good Thing.

It is therefore a matter of the utmost urgency and importance for BiH and for all of its citizens that – in the next few weeks – the Entity Parliaments enact the necessary agreements to establish this modern and efficient BiH banking supervisions system.

If they act now, the system can be up and running before the October elections.

The fact that cross-Entity banking has become the norm makes the existence of two banking regulators superfluous and counterproductive. Maintaining separate organisations is expensive and inefficient - and costs will rise further in the future as BiH begins to comply with EU banking Directives over the next few years. This will require special expertise, which will be more expensive if it has to be offered by two organizations rather than one.

I urge the Bankers’ Association to continue lobbying for the parliaments to act and act quickly so that the enormous progress that has been achieved in the banking sector can be consolidated and further enhanced, so that citizens, savings can be further protected and so that more investment in job creation can be attracted to the BiH economy.

Thank you.

BH-Gas isporučio rekordnih 166 miliona kubnih metara prirodnog gasa

Quote:

NOVI UGOVORI BH TELECOMA S ERICSSONOM NIKOLA TESLA

Quote:

Generalni direktor BH Telecoma Hamdo Katica i predsjednica Ericssona Nikole Tesle Gordana Kovačević potpisali su sedam ugovora, čija vrijednost iznosi 4. 764.055,56 eura.

Po riječima predsjednice Ericssona Nikole Tesle Gordane Kovačević novi ugovori predstavljaju prirodni slijed u stalnom razvoju i unapređenju nacionalne bh. telekomunikacijske mreže.

Novim ugovorima obuhvaćeno je proširenje kapaciteta i funkcionalnosti SGSN/GGSN čvorova u dijelu bežičnog Interneta, odnosno GSM/GPRS/EDGE mreže BH Telecoma.

Novi poslovi uključuju i integraciju softverskih funkcionalnosti koje podižu kvalitetu govornih usluga, povećavaju kapacitet radiomreže i poboljšavaju performanse postojeće GPRS/EDGE mreže BH Telecoma.

Nadalje, BH Telecom će nakon realizacije novougovorenih poslova raspolagati i najmodernijim sistemom tarifiranja i naplate paketskih usluga, a korisnicima BH Telecoma bit će omogućena kontrola troškova te izbor načina i modela tarifiranja paketskih usluga.

If they're smart (and the situation allows it - I'm assuming it does), the folks in Neum would add the Illyrian site to their whole tourist package.

Bosna Bank International expands its Islamic banking and trade finance services with solutions from Misys Banking Systems

Quote:
Bosna Bank International d.d. Sarajevo (BBI), the first bank in Bosnia and Herzegovina to operate on the principles of Islamic banking, has selected Misys Equation Islamic and Misys Trade Innovation.

To help expand the reach and capabilities of its retail banking operation and its trade finance services for corporate customers.

BBI's founders and shareholders, Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah, Dubai Islamic Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, recently invested KM 50 million towards the rebuilding and further development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The bank is planning to double the number of retail branches within the country and has chosen the core banking system, Misys Equation, from Misys Banking Systems to maintain the high standards of customer service as it expands. The bank plans to add new channels to its retail banking offer, such as Internet and telephone banking as well as call centre capabilities. BBI is also extending its Islamic banking products, taking advantage of the additional capabilities of Misys Equation Islamic Banking and Finance.

In corporate banking, BBI is the only bank in Bosnia and Herzegovina to offer companies trade finance facilities under an Islamic banking framework. BBI chose Misys Trade Innovation to help it deliver more sophisticated and varied trade services. The choice was driven by the exceptional functionality and the substantial number of users of Misys Trade Innovation. This provides both confidence and business opportunity.

The fully integrated system will be installed at the bank's head office in Sarajevo, from where it will be rapidly rolled out across the branch network. Mr. Said Mohamed, Director General of Bosna Bank International, sees Misys as critical to enabling the bank's expansion. 'Misys Banking Systems has an excellent track record of helping Islamic banks provide the service our customers need. Misys Equation will be integrated with our existing ATM system and to the local real-time clearing systems, which will enhance our retail banking offer. Additionally, we are confident that our trade finance operation will be very much strengthened by Misys Trade Innovation.'

You're right. I just hope Osmanagic doesn't smell some kind of a 'perfect geometical structure' over there as well.

Englezi hoće da vade naftu u sjevernoj BiH

Quote:

* Godine 1991. rat prekida promociju nalazišta i zaustavlja istraživanja

The reconstruction of the old Konjic bridge will start May 12th. The bridge was built in 1682 and was destroyed by fleeing German forces in 1945.
I remember seeing a project board for this project during my 2 week stay last summer. When I first entered Konjic (downtown), I remember seeing a nice looking square thing with a big fountain and cafes/restaurants surrounding it all. It looked good.

I have relatives living on the other side of town (kind of near the place of the Stari Most). I don't remember much being offered in that place, just some pizzeria across the bridge and little shops for locals.

P.S. There's already another bridge right next to the place of the old one. I guess it was built during Yugoslavia or something. I just hope it doesn't end up looking bad with one historic bridge and another modern one.
