Upgrades to South African Cricket Grounds

I'm just putting this out there. Whilst understandably a lot of capital has been plowed into the construction of football stadiums around the country, what about upgrades to cricket grounds? I say this because I feel the standard of all South African Cricket grounds is lacking in terms of contemporary design, modern seating facilities, shaded areas (modern sails seen in Australia and the UK) and general upgrades to stands/bars/members’ areas.
The hard wooden benches with no shade at the Wanderer’s , or the extremely outdated ugly façade of Kingsmead spring to mind as two examples where South Africa, I believe, is lacking and must move into modern times.
This lack of construction and change doesn’t resonate with the rest of the mood for improvement, construction and urban/building improvements observed throughout the country.
What do you guys think?

They might upgrade them the net time we host the CWC. Welcome PP.

I like this design.

Thanks Pule. That does look good.

below is a picture of what I believe the Adelaide Oval in Australia will be upgraded to in the near future.

I'm a fan of the open sail like areas where fans can in a way get the best of both worlds. I'd love to see something similar developed at nearly all SA grounds as we have the style of smaller ground that suits this approach. Hope Cricket SA can get the ball rolling on this....

Mo Rush previously posted some of the designs which were proposed for either Moses Mabhida or Soccer City and I thought the designs will be perfect for cricket stadium.

have to say I dont think newlands is to bad at the moment (plus its always touchy when they change anything there) but some of the others are really begining to look dated and newlands could do with a refurb in terms of seats ect.

Has Cricket SA shown any interest in upgrading grounds, and will they have the necessary funds to do this?

personally i like our cricket stadiums, with kingsmead being the exception. Would be sad if the ground lost their charm due to modern upgrades. that said there is room for improvements, but i would not like to see a major revamp of any ground. St Georges is my favorite, the setting next to the duck pond and public park is awesome.

NLCS got an upgrade to the pitch not too long ago... The venue is still in a good condition, but some upgrades are always welcome.

I don't know what the financial standing is of Cricket South Africa, but I'd say that it wouldn't be too bad given the revenues generated from hosting the IPL, revenues generated from touring and other payments from the ICC.
If it means raising finance from banks, or even paying for it directly out of retained earnings, I would say go for it.
Upgrades are ocurring at many major venues across the world i.e. India, England and OZ. The longer you take to upgrade something, generally, the harder and more expensive it becomes to fix i.e. not that it's the same thing, but look at central Joburg. The SA public and a team like the Proteas deserve better

True. Just a note though - Newlands is the most beautiful cricket ground in the world.
