haha I can imagine . In the united states we know fulham owner shad khan as the owner of the nfl's jacksonville jaguars, and believe me if there was promotion and relegation in the nfl the jags would've been relegated quite awhile ago. (to be fair the team is on a bit of an upswing recently, and he's poured a lot of money into the stadium and franchise)

Those changes will result in a reduction of around 1,000 in the capacity? So the capacity after the new Riverside stand will only be 29,000?

Seems like those changes have to be done though, as that corner section currently used for VIP boxes is needed to build access to the new stand.

Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce that it has commissioned esteemed sculptor Douglas Jennings to create a statue of George Cohen MBE. It will be displayed at Craven Cottage and unveiled in October 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of England’s famous World Cup victory in 1966, in which George played and raised the iconic Jules Rimet trophy.

For many years, George has been a fantastic ambassador for Fulham’s work in the community. As part of the fundraising process, two initiatives in his name will be launched with the aim of improving men’s health through local dementia care and health preventative programmes.

The statue and the dementia and men’s health programmes managed by the Club’s Foundation will require significant funding. Fulham’s Chairman, Shahid Khan, has pledged to match every single pound raised to ensure that not only the statue is erected, but that the Foundation can deliver initiatives supporting George’s chosen cause.

Fans worldwide will also be given the opportunity to contribute in a multitude of different ways, including a personal engraving on a brass plaque that will adorn the stone plinth on which the statue will stand, along with money-can’t-buy experiences involving the Fulham team.

As Fulham and England’s right-back, George played 459 times for the Whites and 37 times for his country. His entire career was played in the black and white of Fulham and he remains a host of his own George Cohen Lounge on matchdays at the Cottage, where he delights visitors with anecdotes and tales of his former playing days along with insightful analysis of the Club's most recent performances.

“George Cohen and Craven Cottage are each at the heart of the history and tradition of Fulham Football Club,” FFC Chairman Shahid Khan said. “Mr Cohen continues to inspire us at Fulham, as well as everyone who loves the game of football in England.

"It’s only appropriate that Mr Cohen be celebrated and honoured here at Craven Cottage by the Club as well as our fans who can take part in the effort to recognise a legendary member of the Fulham family and make a difference in the good causes that Mr Cohen supports.”

Bob Howes, chairman of the supporter-led group that proposed the statue to Fulham earlier this year said: “We're delighted that this honour is being paid to George Cohen MBE, a true gentleman who has given so much to the supporters of Fulham, England and the world of football. Our committee are fully committed and would like to invite all supporters to join us in funding this exciting project."

The only World Cup title ever won by England took place on 30th July 1966 at Wembley Stadium and had an attendance of 96,924. The British television audience reached 32.30m viewers, making the Final the most watched television event ever in the United Kingdom. For his contribution to that success, George was awarded the MBE in 2000.

More planning applications submitted. Can't be many planning conditions left now, as the latest application is in relation to the exterior materials, solar panels and lighting.

On all the Fulham messageboards today, word is going round that the work has been put on hold. Can you shed any light on this?! Sad if true

Only time will tell, but it doesn't sound very promising reading the various Fulham forums.

Heatherwick Studio Appointed
Monday 25 April 2016 14:30

Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce that as works progress at Craven Cottage for the redevelopment of its Riverside Stand, Chairman Shahid Khan has personally commissioned Heatherwick Studio, led by celebrated designer Thomas Heatherwick, CBE RDI, to contribute its significant expertise to the proposed scheme, thus enabling Mr. Khan to fulfil his aspiration of creating an iconic landmark on the banks of the River Thames.

The Club has been executing pre-commencement conditions for some considerable time to enable work to begin on the Riverside, where planning permission has already been achieved for a new stand. The plans increase the capacity of Craven Cottage which is vital for the future of the Club as it strives to fulfil the aspiration of a return to the Premier League. Further, opening up the Riverwalk for the first time, along with the Club’s commitment to investment in Bishop’s Park, will considerably enhance the locality every day of the year.

Heatherwick Studio famously designed the London 2012 Olympic cauldron, which was lit during the opening ceremony. The cauldron was made of 204 pieces, which were brought into the Queen Elizabeth Stadium by children, representing the coming together in peace of each of the 204 countries competing in the Games and the collaborative human spirit at the heart of them. The studio is currently working on large-scale architectural projects in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, America and the UK including new headquarters for Google in California and the redevelopment of the David Geffen Hall, home of the New York Philharmonic.

Known for his enormous enthusiasm for illustrious design, Chairman Shahid Khan has taken an avid interest in the Riverside investment and was so impressed with Heatherwick Studio’s interest in collaborating on the project that he immediately asked for their involvement. This morning he said:

“The Riverside Stand project required patience and diligence, and ultimately a designer who understands the history of London, the Thames and, of course, Fulham. Thomas Heatherwick is that designer. I have had many meetings with Thomas in the past half-year and while his work speaks for itself, to hear him articulate his vision is something else. Thomas will bring to life what the project, the neighbourhood and the Fulham community deserve.”

The final timescale will be determined following progression of the design and in the interim Fulham will continue to move forward with fulfilment of the pre-commencement provisions as planned.

Interesting to see what Heatherwick comes up with. KSS must be bitterly disappointed.

I'm confused, does this mean the entire KSS design for the stand is scrapped and Heatherwick will come up with something else or are Heatherwick only coming on board to work on the rest of the development such as the boardwalk etc? I really thought the new stand looked great and would certainly add to the overall appearance of that stretch of the Thames.
