Numero Uno: Jaipur Airport is the best in the country!

Quote:
Jaipur: The Jaipur Airport has been adjudged as the country’s best airport in the year 2011.

The number one status among Airport Authority of India (AAI) airports has been achieved following the 4.37 points index garnered by Jaipur Airport in the Airports Service Quality (ASQ) survey in 2011.

No other AAI airport has managed to secure such stellar index/rating in the quarterly survey conducted by Airport Council International (ACI), considered voice of airports across the world. Come April 28 and the Jaipur Airport will be awarded country’s best airport award at a special function in New Delhi by the AAI. Confirming the development, Jaipur Airport Director D Paul Manickam told over phone that the survey is considered a global benchmark when it comes to measuring customer satisfaction about service quality at airports across the world. “While South Korea’s Incheon International Airport has been adjudged the best airport globally, the Jaipur Airport has finished as the country’s best airport in 2011,” Manickam maintained.

The Airport Director would himself receive the special award in New Delhi on April 28. “The Jaipur Airport was number one in the three quarters, while remained second in one quarter to Guwahati Airport, ultimately becoming number one airport of the country in 2011,” the director added.

The building will now also have walkalators. Currently the building has only escalators and stairs.

There will also be high tech CCTVs installed to increase the security.

A multi story car park will also be built.

The airport currently has 2 conveyor belts. 4 more will be added. X ray baggage system will also be installed.

Paul Mannikam, Director, Jaipur Airport: " 411 crores have been approved. Report for extending the terminal has been made. Stake holders meeting was held on monday. The extension of the terminal was discussed in the meeting. Now the airport authority regulatory body will reexamine and with this the work will begin on extending the terminal

Jaipur airport ranked No 1

JAIPUR: In a survey conducted by Airports Council International this year, the Jaipur airport has emerged as the first among the 126 airports run by the Airports Authority of India.

Jaipur airport got its Terminal 2 having international facilities only two years ago.

Paul Manickum, director of Jaipur airport, talking to TOI on Monday, said: "The Airports Council International had conducted a survey of 126 airports which are being run by the AAI in India. This survey was based on 33 parameters in which our airport has been rated as No 1 in the country."

The 126 airports include Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Goa and Chennai airports.

The 33 parameters include airport safety and security, immigration and customs, cleanliness, runways, facility of parking, catering etc, said Manickum.

"Since 2009, when Terminal 2 became operational, various teams including air traffic control (ATC), immigration and security officers were burning midnight oil to give the best of facilities to air travellers. This is a result of team effort and we will continue to provide the best of facilities," said Manickum.

On Tuesday, various stakeholders, whose contribution fetched good results to the AAI, Jaipur, would be felicitated.

"Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi and officials of Rajasthan government would be present at the felicitation ceremony," Manickam added.

The authorities of AAI, Jaipur have already started working the extension of runway work to bring international flights to Jaipur which would also help gemstones and jewellery exporters who have their offices in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. The work is expected to be completed within 18 months paving the way for landing of big aircraft including Boeing 747 and Airbus A 380. Presently, the Jaipur airport has a runaway of only 9,000 ft on which big aircraft including Boeing 747 and Airbus 380 can't operate.

When did Jaipur Domestic terminal open? If it is during the last 3 years, maintenance is very poor. I doubt if the glass facade and walls are cleaned ever. In another 5 years, there wont be much difference between old AAI cowsheds and the current terminal. The only difference will be dirty glass facade instead of ugly concrete walls

On the contrary, it actually looks quite nice. And that is coming from the guy who is critical about pretty much everything.

Read my comment again. I said the maintenance is poor. I loved the airport and the local touches. But there is a glaring difference between the maintenance of private players and that of AAI. I couldnt take pics as my mobiile cam had problems.

It was a fleeting visit. The main thing I could notice was the dirt in the glass walls. And ofcourse small things like stain on some walls and dustbins. While the airport is good, the maintenance leaves a lot to be desired. I saw lot of handicraft shops, which gave that local touch. Couldnt recall if the design had any local elements.

Mumbai's domestic terminals and Delhi's T1C/D (let alone T3) in contrast, are far better maintained inspite of the heavy traffic they handle. Especially, the moment I landed in Mumbai's T1B, I couldn't help appreciating the radiant look maintained by the operator inspite of the constraints.

I took both these terminals because these are just renovated and is comparable to Jaipur airport in terms of money spent in construction unlike Delhi's T3 or Mumbai's upcoming T2.

Jaipur Friends,

Please do send emails to Indigo. At present Jaipur does not have direct flights to Pune by Indigo and so far there are no Jaipur-Coimbatore one stop flight either by any carrier.

Indigo may try Jaipur-Pune-Coimbatore flights. This is evident from a press release when it was mentioned that Jaipur would be connected with 5 more cities including Coimbatore but that one is not a single flight but have to change flights at Mumbai or HYD.
